This question is for designers and players as well: Should designers assume players know how to declare an unplayable lie? I have received some feedback on my first course that "I should have placed OB" in a couple particular spots. Some of these places IRL would be a hazard, and some of them wouldn't be anything. It would be on the player to declare an unplayable lie if they didn't want to take the risk of hitting the shot that may be "unplayable". Here is a picture of a hole from my course to be used as an example: If this hole were to exist IRL, the rocks short of the green would most likely not be marked at all. MAYBE as a hazard, but definitely not out of bounds. So, what does a designer in this game do? Should you make the area where the rocks are out of bounds? What about the 2 or 3 yards just short of it, where it would take a good flop to clear them? If the player knows the rules (specifically taking an unplayable lie, which is pretty well implemented in this game), they not only will have the option to attempt playing the ball as it lies, they will have more options on where to drop if they take an unplayable. From a scoring standpoint, it can only benefit the player for it not to be out of bounds. Obviously, this is a game and not real life, so there are some downsides to not placing out of bounds, such as if you hit it in there, your player could be shown standing in the middle of a rock. To me, leaving it as-is (1) is more realistic, (2) benefits the player 90% of the time (never hurts them), and (3) gives the player more options on how to play the hole. However, it seems it may have become the standard in this game to just paint it OB and call it a day. I'm curious to hear opinions on this.

Can't see the picture, but there really is no need to.
No. Pretty much nothing between the tee box and the green should be OB. Exception could be a ravine of some sort where a designer / owner would fear for player safety. There is no way to place internal OB as in real life to take away a second fairway from play so only OB to be placed should be excemption above and where the golf course property end. So fields and such on the side could be ob.
The reasons many think Ob should be used as much as they say are.
1. They don't know how Ob is used irl. 2. Don't know how to use unplayable 3. And perhaps most important. Unplayable wasn't an option when the game was released.
There are perhaps other reasons to use OB, but this is my opinions and I stick with it regardless what others think.

No wrong answer do what you want and be willing to defend it or tell the haters to go suck a dick.

And probably GNCD should give us designers the option to mark an area as a side - front hazard

I think the problem is when the ball gets "stuck" and just bounces around, never coming to a stop. I think that happened to someone on the CC tour not to long ago. I think it is a once in a million shot, but there is nothing you can do once the ball gets "bounce" locked.

Furthermore I would love have the ability to create a drop zone for a hazard The final fun thing to confuse users completely would be to have some ground under repair with blue markers where you get a free drop
