I can't seem to hit straight in this game to save my life. My shot nearly always draws to the left unless I intentionally pull to the right when I push up. But when I do that, usually it ends up fading right, feels like I can't win there.
I've tried it with three different controllers (two PS3, one Xbox 360), all to the same results, so I don't think it's the gamepad I'm using. The only controller I have that does shoot straight is my Ipega PG-9023, which I use when I'm streaming the game to my tablet. But that feels kind of like cheating, as the Ipega's deadzone is so large I almost always hit perfectly straight with it, and I'd have to really screw up a shot to do otherwise. That's nice and all, but a bit unfair. There's got to be a middle ground here.

- look at controller as you swing - slow your tempo or speed it up ( depending on your current tempo) - try using two fingers (girls love it) instead of thumb - try inverted swing - wear sunglasses to counter teh BLUR

Is it a draw, not a hook?
Is it inside the cone?
Is it pretty consistent?
If the answers to these questions are yes, I would:
1. Play for it 2. Use fade to counter it

Try adjusting your backswing. I had the same problem until I started consciously pulling back at around 6:30 on the clock face for the backswing. Kept the downswing direction the same. Now it's more consistent.
Could be wrong, but seems that the result of the shot (left, right, straight) is more dependent on the direction of the backswing than the downswing (forward thrust). That's been my experience.

I have worked on a straight "swing" for months.
It took me quiet a while, but now I'm pretty happy with the outcome. People who watch my streams occasionally will probably confirm that.
There's basically two key points for me:
1.) Look at the controller when I"swing", not at my monitor or TV. Even after "impact", just like in real golf. Don't "look" after the ball too early. 2.) THE POSITION OF MY THUMB!
I've worked on different positions of my thumb on the controller (PS4 stock controller), and even with the slightest adjustment(s), my swing line went offline. I have now found the position that works best for me. I won't tell you where it is, because I'm pretty sure it's not the same for everyone.

i dotted my controller. One dot on the center of the ball beneath the analog stick so i see it when i pull back and another dot on the body of the controller, center edge. Pull down, then push up hard dot to dot.
This is not considered an augmentation. It's just a visual guide, not a mechanical enhancement.
I still have a very slight hit to the left most of the time. Very rare i get the perfect straight up and down line on the 12 -6 but I get close.

A visual of when I first did it on one of my controllers last year:

I've been through periods of the swing just disappearing on me without any apparent change in action. But have been able to make some big improvements in the last couple of months with two good "swing thoughts"...
1 - swing fast 2 - let go of the stick as soon as it hits the top.
I think the 2nd has the biggest impact - more chance that you can end up off centre if you're still grappling the stick - so better to let it go.

On PC, which the OP seems to be on....
Turn down the sensitivity of the mouse in game. No stupid software that 1) can be used to cheat and 2) can really mess up your reaction/swing if you don't it set right (like windows calibration tool). Don't look at the controller, just put your hand in the natural place on the controller like everyone does. Nice easy back swing looking at the screen, when the golfer gets to the top of the wing, nice easy push forward (a little faster than the back swing but not ramming it forward). Works for me. I thin this kind of swing technique will also work a whole lot better for TGC2 than the "look at the controller and ram it" technique...

Practice, practice, practice. Wash your hands before playing a round. Use alcohol to clean your controller.

This is exactly how I swing, letting go just before it hits the top. I found if I follow through it most always went right. But letting go just before gets it much straighter

I don't use my thumb like most players do. I use the right analog to swing. I rest the controller in my left hand and on my lap. I pull back with my right index finger and push forward with my right thumb. I think I may have even started a long time ago by pushing back with my index and middle finger but it has evolved into just the index now. I've suggested this to a few of my buddies and they started hitting the ball much more consistently straight.
