When I started my course I set tee box and greens to zero. The default green shape never disappeared but I thought that was normal. I've noticed now when I move the pin around towards the edge the underlayed green shows. My question is did I screw up in regards not getting rid of the original green? Can you still get rid of it? Or...does the original green not matter....and i should just "place pin".

Unfortunately, you can't shrink the default green down to nothing like you can with fairway, so you need to make sure your custom green surfaces completely surround the small default green. If you use the "move" command, you're moving that default green, and one of the edges might stick out.
Instead, use the "place pin" command. That won't move the default green around. The drawback is that you don't get accurate course yardage to the pin, but the scorecard yardage is customarily measured to the center of the green anyway.
