I have only had TGC for a few months now, meaning I am far from an expert on the game in general, and that's especially true for the course editor portion - so, if this is a common knowledge question, please forgive me.
I do a bit of terrain creation for another game I play, and I use Photoshop to great a greyscale height map to create the in-game elevation. Basically, white is high, black is low, and the max and min heights are determined by a terrain file that includes a general foot to pixel ratio. Here is a really basic example:
I have gone into course editor a number of times to start learning, and I find myself spending a ton of time getting the elevation changes on the map to fit what I am trying to do. So, I thought, wouldn't it be great if it were possible to just set the height map in PS, import that as a base terrain for a course, then do all the other editing/hole placement/etc. in the course designer?
Here is my question - is this even remotely possible? I haven't looked into it at all, but I figured this would be a good first place to ask...IMO it could really streamline the course creation process and allow for more customized land layouts - plus, it may open the door to more creators who are comfortable with PS but don't have the time to invest in learning the finer points of elevation editing in GNCD. Additionally, there are programs that can grab real world height data and create greyscale elevation maps like the example I posted above, which would make creating replica courses immensely easier and more accurate.
Maybe it's just me that feels GNCD is really limited with it's terrain raise/flatten tools? That's very possible, but I wanted to at least ask.
