I have a crazy idea. During our off-week, how about we have a community wide "Arnold Palmer Memorial Tournament"? The catch? To get into the tournament you have to make a minimum $5 donation to Arnie's memory to Arnie's Army. www.arniesarmy.org/donateI can't think of any more apt way to salute a man who played great golf and gave so much to kids than playing great golf and giving to kids.

Sounds good to me. Bay Hill seems the appropriate venue, yes?

I'll even donate a prize to it. If you get into the tournament and can prove you made the donation (i.e. save the receipt you get folks), you could win a case of Arizona iced tea Arnold Palmers. When the final results are in, I'll use an internet randomizer to pick a number of all those who enter and they get the prize.

Would it be better if we collected the $5 through PayPal and then made just one big donation to the Charity in the TGCT name in Arnie's honor? I know in the end there really isn't a difference but might be cool to have it done as a community.

I just don't want to do something where one person collects the cash without Tim's OK.

If we set something up I'll be happy to post a donation...bypassing the tourney though.

OK, the tournament will be four rounds, one each at:
Royal Troon (where Arnie won the Open Championship in 1962) Royal Birkhead (where he won the Open Championship in 1961) Magnolia National (obviously since he was 4 time Masters Champ) Bay Hill (his personal course)
I'll open the tournament up tomorrow and it will run 10 days. Anyone can play, even if you don't donate to Arnie's Army, but you can only win the case of Arnold Palmers if you donate.
