On the last two CC courses there have been par 4 holes with pins that are WAY over the USGA guidelines. Par 4 is to 470 yards and I have seen par 4's that the pins are at 502 yards. Keep in mind this is not Bethpage Black or one of the pro tours. Neither are these downhill or with the wind holes that shorten their effective playing distance. At their most difficult these holes can become nearly un parable in some conditions. Even still, par itself is a meaningless number. At the end of the day, everyone is playing the same holes and comparing the total number of strokes it takes to complete the course. It doesn't matter whether total par for the course is 72 or 71 or 85 or whatever. That is complete perception. nolayingup.com/2014/03/03/par-3-par-4-or-par-5-why-does-it-matter/

Just look at it as a par 4.5. Too easy for a par 5, too tough for a par 4. A 4 is half birdie/half par. As for my personal tastes, I dislike par 4s over 480 yards with how far our golfers carry distances as it doesn't make for exciting holes. Same with par 3s over 200 yards but like I look at those as par 3.5s.

The Ratel has its own guidelines, then. LOL I can assure you The Ratel does not follow any guidelines.

As hard as the Ratel is...if you're on you can still shoot fairly well

the fact that prob. 50% of us play our rounds almost nude is kinda tricky to rule......

i see it this way:
in fair conditions: par 3, GIR should be able to be reached in 1 shot, holding the green that is. par 4, GIR should be able to be reached in 2 shots or less, holding the green that is. par 5, GIR should be able to be reached in 3 shots or less, holding the green that is.
nothing else matters in correlation to par. imo

I don't think the Highlands course has a par4 under 470. I think they were all 495 and uphill 2nd shots, with a pin right behind a bunker

I think alot of these courses get setup with long par 4's because of the ridiculous scores you see on this game. Sure in real life, it would be tougher than hell. On a video game, I think most designers are looking for somekind of defense just so it doesn't get torched for a -15. I mean seriously, just look at some of the ungodly scores you see week in and week out on the tours. Come on guys...it's a dam video golf game...get over it!!! I've always said...and I stand by it...don't want your course torched...design a tougher course tee to green. I have NO issue with 500+ yd par 4's. It's the clown hole greens that grind my gears. If you're forcing me to make 2 perfectly executed shots to get within 20 feet of the pin...give me a shot at birdie. That's my only beef with some of the courses.
