Hi guys. I read and followed a lot of tips on here in my endeavor to improve and the words too aggressive and don't be aggressive crop up a lot but if your trying to do well one would try to get birdies etc.....wouldn't they? I have tried to course manage but I seem to do no better,I try for 45 & 55 yard approach shots but I end up shaking my head and saying 'this game is unbelievable,it cheats,it's inconsistent' etc etc. Could any of you better players offer any CM tips so at least I no what I am trying to do is perhaps the right thing to do but could be done better. Sorry if it sounds confusing but I am getting knowhere and am seriously close to slinging my clubs in the nearest lake and then having a very wet lunch in the 19th. Play well everyone. Dennis

Dennis It's very hard to come up with a universal approach to course management, as so much is dependent on the dozens of factors at hand on any specific hole. It sounds as though you're on the right track, though, because leaving 45-to-55-yard approaches is almost always a good idea in this game. The two suggestions I'd make are (1) be sure to analyze the slopes of the green and the area surrounding the green before you hit your approach shot and (2) watch some of the "better players" on Twitch to see how they attack different scenarios and to ask questions as necessary. That's really the best way to get a feel for what people do, especially since no two shots will be the same. As far as finding someone to watch, I hear there's a top-5 player who streams quite a bit, but I forget his name... (Link in signature, lol.)

Alright, alright, I admit that was a pretty shameless plug, but it was coated in some good advice! A large part of how I learned to play this game was through watching other players stream, so I really believe in its power as a teaching tool, as well. As far as I know, I stream the most out of any player in the top 5 or 10 in the WGR, but it's definitely worthwhile to check the Twitch page on the main TGCT site to find channels that you like and that you find informative.

Ha all in good spirit mate . Yeah watch the pros and your gaurenteed to learn something! Honestly I've been playing for over a year and still learning! Putting is the key though mines got so bad I've taken a break from the game as the rest of my play is the best it's ever been but 28-33 putts per round is controller meets tv territory

Golf is a game of angles.
And inches....

I will always try to leave me a close easy chip/pitch than longish putt as my 3rd shot on par 5's which are reachable with two shots. Also works on par 3 holes when pin location is very hard to reach or get close. Usually if greens are not so firm I will try to hunt the flag tho. So sometimes lil bit too long shot works better. This is good for me because I'm decent scrambler around greens Just a simple tip.

Totally agree with watching twitch streams. When one of the guys in the top tiers post a vid that says "How I play firm greens" or "How I play fast and firm conditions", I am moving closer to the big screen and all in for the whole vid. I appreciate you guys doing that.

I have to agree with those saying that a Twitch Stream from anybody inside the Top50 or so is indeed a great teaching tool. I've been at that point as well (and sometimes I am still there), and without watching really good players I'd probably be still on the Web-Tour or so.
As far as 45-75y approaches are concerned, I try to - whenever possible - place my ball on the fairway where I end up with as much side wind as possible. I'm normally pretty good on those approaches, but (strong) tail- or crosswinds still make me mess up my approaches occasionally. If I only have to adjust my shot left/right, I can place my ball next to the flagstick in most cases, no matter how firm/soft the greens are.
I hope that makes sense to you....
