A quick question. When trying to land your ball on a multi sloping green would one always try to land the ball for an uphill putt or a downhill putt? Though I try I cannot seem to workout which is the favoured shot. Thank you in advance

I would think it's just which putt you are most comfortable with. In Real Life, I prefer uphill putts, but on TGC I am more comfortable with downhill putts.

I don't think it differs much as in real life uphill putts are always preferred. But I am no way a golf guru I just like uphill as you don't have to baby the putt which means giving it less borrow.

I feel like uphill is the way to go.
When you miss a downhiller, bad things can happen compared to the uphill putt.

But basically uphill putts are definitely better, as the chance to run into big troubles when missing the hole are not as big as with an insane downhiller.

Uphill for sure - just as in real life.
It's a bit interesting however that pure uphill putts turns away from the hole of hit off line while downhill ones turn towards the hole.
Still - have to be much more defensive on downhillers.

I think uphill is almost always the safer play. With that being said, so many greens on TGC shift away from the pin toward off of the green, so I usually play on the smart side and get left with the downhiller, which I don't mind too much.
What I do look at a lot is left to right or right to left. This is opposite of real life, but as a right-hander on the game, I'd much rather have a left to right putt. I read them much more consistently and make most of them. There's nothing I hate more on this game than a downhill right to left putt. They seem so unpredictable.
But funny enough, my favorite putt in real life is downhill right to left, I see the line well and just give it a tap and let the green do the rest.

My reasoning is on TGC I tend to baby the down hill putts and it seems to make me more accurate on line and speed. Where, with uphill putts, I sometimes hit them way too hard and leave myself a long downhill putt coming back.

It's statistically proven uphill puts are easier
Imagine hitting the ball 100%. On an uphill putt it may travel 150ft. On a downhill putt it may travel 250ft therefore the downhill putt has far more margin for error and far greater fluctuation in distance for each % of power you put into it. Using those figures if you want to putt 75ft then uphill a 45-55% swing would hit it 68-82ft however putting for 75ft downhill using the same 10% bracket 25-35% would hit it 62-88ft
Uphill for same strength swing there is a 14ft gap but for downhill there is 26ft window
Same for left to right. Downhill the ball rolls slower so breaks more, the same putt uphill travels faster and therefore breaks less so less margin for error

I feel like uphill is the way to go. When you miss a downhiller, bad things can happen compared to the uphill putt. & there again if you've got an uphill putt, & you misjudge your shot you could findthe ball coming back to you, depending on the severity

My thought would be absolutely UPHILL, BUT, with the caveat that I CAN'T hit the ball where I want arrggggh
