I assume it won't start from scratch and will count our current plays?

It will start from scratch, you have to play 20 rounds on designated courses (min 200 plays)

im presuming its any course with 200 plays but not entirely sure.
reason why im not sure is because stroke indexes have to be sorted out.

I believe this is the case, I am assuming this but all the course with 200 play would get the ratings during the update with any server work needed for the update to work beng done at the same tme.

im guessing that the stats built up each hole will determine its stroke index.

Yes any course you play without a stroke index will not count towards your handicap so use them for a practice warm up, you have to play 20 courses with a stroke index after the update to set your handicap then play your favorites with 200 plays over all three platforms combined if it does not have a stroke index it will not yet have enough plays.

When I first bought the game my 4 year old would go play rounds everyday while I was at work and thought it was the funniest thing to hit balls into the water so my current global rating is in the crapper lol

Though truthfully she wasn't half bad.

Looks interesting . Definitely better than current Global rating (which I blew out chasing trophies). I,myself, will have to resist the temptation to "grind" out the rounds required to establish a handicap.
