great write up and i am sure it will help out a lot of people trying to improve but it's not for me all these maths working out so many clicks etc takes the fun out of the game and makes it too methodical and to be honest if you are that good at working all the equations out it becomes easy and boring, this sort of thinking to me spoiled the other game with stupid scores anyhow for me its fun and feel and why i will never make it to the top of the tree but hey i am having a blast playing this game i never ever play the other golf game so good luck to you in the web tour Exactly how I feel. Glad I'm not alone Add another to that.

WHAAAAAT?! I go to visit family for a week and a half and now Wagtadamus is on the Web tour? What kind of black magic is this??? Jk. Congrats, Wags. I wish I played on PC just to play with your ghost. I'll just have to settle for BillChief and Pablo.. I'll be joining you soon if I finish at least one shot better than the top 4 this week. Not holding my breath because 5 under is probably gonna take me out of the top 10 knowing CC-A

It all starts again...cue two months time as the Ryder cup beckons... Wag states " I have no desire to play in this competition" sighs " I only want to be in the top 20 in the world, that's as far as I want to go".... Actually, no. I do know my limitations. The amount of work that the guys at the top have to put into this game is staggering. They have everything down to a science. Plus, they simply putt lights out. I've watched some streams. I can't believe the putts these guys "regularly" sink. It's mind boggling. Trust me, it's going to be hard enough competing in Web. There will be plenty of missed cuts. But I'm fine with that knowing that I won't be sent back down to CC unless I ask for a demotion. Nope, PGA isn't even on the radar. Sorry to butt in here, but it doesn't have to be as scientific or complex as you think. Especially on some of the firmer courses, I play mostly by feel and rely on past rounds to guess how I need to play it. It's a very inexact science, at least for me. There are many different techniques to get good at this game, though, I suppose. But putting is the key; I definitely agree with you there. Anyway, congrats on moving up to Web!

Congratulations and good luck in Web.
I appreciate your posts here on this board and for the work you do with the practice tours. I do not mean anything in a bad way, but I actually find some of your posts very entertaining. I guess they irritate some folks, but I think some of the thoughts you share, and take flack for, that people can relate to in many aspects of their lives, not just video games, but maybe real sports that some have competed in professionally or whatever, or in their careers, etc...
My father always told me, "you just be who you are with absolutely no apologies or trying to be what anyone else thinks you should be".
Anyway, on the tips, I know just what you are describing in that you are not really doing the maths and making the game not fun. After a while it becomes a quick almost automatic thought. I too can play around in 20-25. But in my mind I am using the math...
I actually do several of the things you mentioned already. I still do not understand the whole "click" thing in regards to side winds. I mean I do move the stick right and left for side winds, but a "click" is all about the speed which you move the stick and release. My clicks must be longer. Because on a Driver shot with a 10mph side wind, I will use 10 clicks. On my long irons down to a 7 iron I usually am 1 click for every 2mph to 1 to 1.5mph. On my 8/9 iron and the pitching wedge I am 1 to 1. Not perfect, hence my CC-C status, but 40 of my clicks for my driver shot in a 10mph side wind I am sure would almost be like throwing a boomerang...
As for putting, I don't think there can be a system for this. Its all about feel. I never move my marker. On fast 20 fast sidewinder putts I kinds just move the aim where I think it should be, then add 50% in that direction more just cause I know I always underestimate.
Love the tip about the par 5's. I hurt myself so darned much with being 17 yards from the hole off the green or something like that. Trying to finness a pitch or a chip, and ending up 25 feet from the pin...ending up with par or worse.
Hard to comment on the swing technique. I think I pretty much do what you are saying. Learned how to swing playing Tiger Woods... Middle of the thumb pad on the back edge of the stick I assume you do pull back as normal then push forward (hence the flick). I still struggle from time to time with it. Rarely are my shots straight in the cone. There are always jaggies. And if I really am trying extra hard I always when I apply too much downward pressure with my thumb which causes a slice...always at the worst possible moment. Straight swings happen only when I don't think much about that.
Thanks for this reply. It was really appreciated. As for the swing, yeah, tension will mess it up. Even I get tense during really bad times when it's a must have shot. But under normal conditions, I'm pretty close to center. And yes, as you described it is exactly how I swing. I personally think it's the best method and least prone to error. But each person has his own thing and if it works for them, that's all that matters. Thanks again for sharing all this.

I've never done the click thing with wind, but having watched streams etc I know a fair few though. If I did everything down to a calculation the game wouldn't feel as much fun. Pick a spot, which you've learnt from feel is roughly correct, and hit. If I leave a 20 footer so be it, that's golf lol.
Not knocking those who do, everyone plays in the way they feel natural and rightfully so. Putting too is all feel for me, and learning from experience.

OMG, the #3 player on the tour has replied to my thread. I feel like a giddy school girl. Man, if I had a fraction of your talent. Do you have any streams or something where I can watch one of your rounds? I'd love to pick up something from one of the best.

As a matter of fact, yes I do. I'm usually pretty active on my Twitch channel (my handle there is also DoubtfulObelisk); there's one video in particular, "How I Play The Golf Club," that you might find especially useful. It has the most views of any of my highlighted streams, so people seem to find it informative. Hope that helps.

I look at it this way....knocking a 59 playing solely by "feel" is a hell of a lot more gratifying to me than knocking a 59 through calculations. If it's what people need to succeed...more power to them. I just can't switch my mindset to do it.

Having played it so damn much I know thr loft charts, taught myself the deloft side of it, have spent ages working on Bubba style fade and draw etc, so its gotten to the point I can calculate many aspects of it without really thinking, if you understand what I mean. It's all natural. If I had to sit and do math and consult charts etc for every aspect for every single shot, I'd be bored, personally. But again, I've seen how some top players play other golf games and some of the charts and spreadsheets they have are insanely in-depth so its whatever works for you.

Don't get me wrong..I look at the shots and adjust accordingly....but I don't grab the chart and go.."Ok...I've got 159 in...plus 1.5 times the wind...Ok chart says this club". I look...either club up or club down...take a bit of loft off or add some..and hit it. Sure one could memorize the numbers through repetition...but to me that's just too time consuming initially.

Took me about a month of playing a couple rounds each day, but understood man. Whatever works for peeps Exactly that. Stinks looking at a sheet...after a couple weeks you don't need it. If I had no sheet and just paid attention to yards travelled, I would still know it after a couple months I hope. Any golfer worth their salt knows how far their clubs go in different conditions. To purposely avoid learning that seems a bit silly, unless you want to be a casual player in CC.
