That's if you have the mindset to study and memorize things to succeed at a video game. I've just never had it in me. I used to play the NHL games online on PS3 every year. I could score the "cheese" goals as often as I wanted just like everyone else...but I refused to do it because I wanted to beat the player I was playing on my own merit. I stopped buying them and playing them because EVERYONE did the same thing EVERY time. It's just not for me. Well, then unfortunately there's not much I can do to help you out. I can't teach talent. Which is why I still can't putt worth a lick. But I do wish you luck on your climb up to join me. I think you can do it on your putting alone. I guess time will tell. I can make it to Z just as easily as I can make it to Web. I'm actually having more fun playing the Community Run Events. If I make it up to A again and then subsequently Web...it was meant to be. If not....meh. Until HBStudios actually irons out the glitches in putting that I endure(seems more than most) I just can't see myself getting any higher. When I get 5-10 putts a tournament that roll right over the hole like it isn't even there...it's laughable. Almost everyone that has played with me live or played my ghost can't believe some of the things I endure while putting.... phoenixjay is about the only person I know that sees it as much as I do

great write up and i am sure it will help out a lot of people trying to improve but it's not for me all these maths working out so many clicks etc takes the fun out of the game and makes it too methodical and to be honest if you are that good at working all the equations out it becomes easy and boring, this sort of thinking to me spoilt the other game with stupid scores anyhow for me its fun and feel and why i will never make it to the top of the tree but hey i am having a blast playing this game i never ever play the other golf game so good luck to you in the web tour

I just decided that I wanted to do well more than I wanted to do badly, which I was doing for a very long time. Anyway, good luck to you and I hope you come up to the Web and join me soon.

Have no desire to play in the PGA. Way too hard. Courses are brutal. On one that I Ranger tested I shot 12 over par. It was absolutely the most miserable experience of my life. No, Web is as far as I want to go. But thanks.

The amount of work that the guys at the top have to put into this game is staggering. They have everything down to a science. Plus, they simply putt lights out. I've watched some streams. I can't believe the putts these guys "regularly" sink. It's mind boggling. Trust me, it's going to be hard enough competing in Web. There will be plenty of missed cuts. But I'm fine with that knowing that I won't be sent back down to CC unless I ask for a demotion. Nope, PGA isn't even on the radar.

Well, here's what keeps this game from getting boring for me.
1) I love the different courses. They all play so differently and each offer different challenges.
2) Putting is a PITA. I don't think I'll ever get really good at it and therefor can never get bored with it. When I make a long putt, it's still so exciting for me.
3) It's still a competition regardless of how you play the game. And in case you haven't noticed, I don't have any trophies and will probably never get one. I can't even imagine myself winning an event. Closes I've come is T3 and T4.
4) This community is as much fun as playing. Last night, doing the Watch with Moe and all the other guys was actually as much fun as any round of golf I've played.
So the chances of my getting bored with the game because I have a few numbers in my head are slim to none. Also, what I do is nowhere near what the pros do. You should see the charts that they use. I can't be bothered with them. That is too much work.
But to each his own. I respect everybody and how they choose to play the game. I am sure there are "natural" players in the PGA. I just don't think they're the norm.

Congratulations and good luck in Web.
I appreciate your posts here on this board and for the work you do with the practice tours. I do not mean anything in a bad way, but I actually find some of your posts very entertaining. I guess they irritate some folks, but I think some of the thoughts you share, and take flack for, that people can relate to in many aspects of their lives, not just video games, but maybe real sports that some have competed in professionally or whatever, or in their careers, etc...
My father always told me, "you just be who you are with absolutely no apologies or trying to be what anyone else thinks you should be".
Anyway, on the tips, I know just what you are describing in that you are not really doing the maths and making the game not fun. After a while it becomes a quick almost automatic thought. I too can play a round in 20-25. But in my mind I am using the math...
I actually do several of the things you mentioned already. I still do not understand the whole "click" thing in regards to side winds. I mean I do move the stick right and left for side winds, but a "click" is all about the speed which you move the stick and release. My clicks must be longer. Because on a Driver shot with a 10mph side wind, I will use 10 clicks. On my long irons down to a 7 iron I usually am 1 click for every 2mph to 1 to 1.5mph. On my 8/9 iron and the pitching wedge I am 1 to 1. Not perfect, hence my CC-C status, but 40 of my clicks for my driver shot in a 10mph side wind I am sure would almost be like throwing a boomerang...
As for putting, I don't think there can be a system for this. Its all about feel. I never move my marker. On fast 20 fast sidewinder putts I kinds just move the aim where I think it should be, then add 50% in that direction more just cause I know I always underestimate.
Love the tip about the par 5's. I hurt myself so darned much with being 17 yards from the hole off the green or something like that. Trying to finness a pitch or a chip, and ending up 25 feet from the pin...ending up with par or worse.
Hard to comment on the swing technique. I think I pretty much do what you are saying. Learned how to swing playing Tiger Woods... Middle of the thumb pad on the back edge of the stick I assume you do pull back as normal then push forward (hence the flick). I still struggle from time to time with it. Rarely are my shots straight in the cone. There are always jaggies. And if I really am trying extra hard I always when I apply too much downward pressure with my thumb which causes a slice...always at the worst possible moment. Straight swings happen only when I don't think much about that.
