Designer problems... I can't edit courses, I can't delete courses, I can't create new ones, but I can play courses fine. What is happening?

did your courses folder get protected somehow or something? That's what I'd check...

did your courses folder get protected somehow or something? That's what I'd check... I hope it didn't... I don't remember my password to unprotected it as my monitor is always logged in... Really need to figure it out. I don't know how it would be protected though... I see nothing different from before, other than the files are in the courses folder as well as in my documents folder. Not sure if this would make a difference.

I don't know what the issue could be, but I would suggest postingthe issue on the HB forums so they can help.
Also, provide some details (here and there) that explain what is happening on your screen, such as "I click GNCD from the main menu and none of my unpublished courses are listed. I also don't see an option to create a new course."
What Reebdoog suggested makes some sense. Or the directory where courses should be was renamed somehow and the game can't find the right folder. You may want to copy out all the course files to another directory somewhere as a backup, just in case you need to do something drastic like uninstall/reinstall TGC.

I thought maybe it was set to read only by mistake. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Make sure it's not read only. Also disable any anti virus and see if that works.

Actually, I did rename the course files. I didn't rename any folders, but that probably makes a difference. If I copy all of them, will it show the original name? Also, I do know the original file name of one course, if I rename the file back, will that fix it? One more thing to point out, I can edit published courses by clicking on them and making a copy. Unfortunately, I would be losing 8 holes on one course, thank god I published 9 hole beta. I'd be losing 2 on another, and worst of all, 4 on a design contest course. Thanks to both ErixonStone and reebdoog for their help in this situation.

right click the folder and go to properties. Read only should be an option towards the bottom.
Also, I believe renaming the files CAN cause a problem.

It was in read only and I turned that off... But I still can't edit. The weir thing is I click on the GNCD, I see the courses, but when I click on them, they won't open. I was able to create a new course, and it loads fine after I exit the editor, but I'm not sure why I can't edit the other ones. UPDATE: I renamed the course that I did know the file name of, and I still couldn't edit it. I'm beginning to freak out.

I think that renaming the files screwed things up. I think there is a database entry that calls a specific filename and that filename is now wrong. I remember editing a name early on and losing a course that way. Maybe I'm wrong.
I'd send a PM to HB Paul on the HB forums and let him know that you renamed them.
Also do a test. Copy a new course file to your desktop. Then rename the course in the courses folder. Start the game. Can you open it? Then exit and change the name back. Go back into the game. Can you open it now? That will let you know if the name change itself was the issue without losing the course as you made a copy to your desktop. Put that copy back into the courses folder and you should be fine.

I renamed one of the files, then exited and reentered the game, and I could get into both files fine. I'll try copying the other courses to see if that works. Thanks! UPDATE: I tried this with my other courses and they still didn't work. I'll go pm HB Paul.

hmmm... if that's the case then you may want to PM Paul. If that doesn't work then zip the files and send them to ME and I'll see if they work on my system. If so I'll resave them, zip them and send them back. I'll pm you my email.
