Just going back to Italy for a second. A quick thought.. We all know the Italians are renowned for there great defensive skills whilst also producing the odd flair player over the years like Pirlo n Baggio. In 2006 though the Italian team IMO wasn't a patch of previous Italian teams but what they did have was an outstanding captain in Fabio Cannavaro. His defending in that tournament was incredible, obviously they had a great keeper in Buffon too, but without Cannavaro Italy probably wouldn't have even made the final.. Of course Italy went on to win the game on penalties.. And the game will probably be most remembered for the "the headbutt" from Zidane to Matterazzi.. A sad way for a great like Zizou to bow out.. Listen to me waffling on.. my point basically is, Sometimes on the very rare occasion one or two inspirational players can lead an otherwise average team to glory..Vardy & Mahrez spring to mind as classic examples.. This could be the year of the underdog.. Will we see another unlikely European win like Greece managed in 04.. A unlikely team could emerge from the pack.. That's the beauty of sport.. You never know...

Maybe we shud run some sort of predictions competition I'd be up for that! beside me my local pub runs a football predictions league for the BPL & international games.. Home win predicted correctly, 1 point. Away win 2 points.. 3 points for predicting a draw.. Obviously at the Euros there will be designated home teams/ or first team appearing on fixture etc so it will still work.. That could be a system we could use.. sounds great! My predictions are already built into the website at donttellthebookies.com, well the first several matches, with previews. Would be interesting to have a little prediction game.

I'd be up for a predictions competition or something Big England fan... dare to get excited as I always do. We have some promising players coming through but winning would take a lot of luck IMO. Bookies might not call them underdogs, but that's cos the whole country puts money on them, if by some miracle they did win they'd be in huge trouble with anything other than short odds . England need to be top of their game and gel like we've not seen at a proper tournament for years. I doubt much of Europe fear them right now, just hope to see them go at it and give 100% and I'll be happy...ish. Wish Rooney had dropped into midfield a year ago, it's like a reincarnation of Scholes at times... If he plays like he can in that role, could be dangerous #daretodream

I think this year it's wide open for a new Greece. Think many of the underdogs are in with a shot here. I've already mentioned Czech Republic and I would put up a warning for Austria as well. It's still unlikely, but it's a good year with the big dogs looking weaker than normal.
I sure hope Sweden can do well, but I don't think they'll put up a single point. Kind of hoping Iceland can turn some more heads. Their way here has been amazing. Can't understand how Kjertlasson didn't make the team though.

For me it's clear. The easier bet is Germany, and then we have a second group of outsiders with France, Spain, the italians are always competitive, but I don't see any surprise coming as something realistic.
But before we have the Champions league final, Real Madrid vs. Atlético. It won't be an spectacular match, but it will be big fun for sure. Thoughts guys?

I really don't care who wins the CL final as I don't like the concept where non champions get to compete in a champions league, but that's a different story. Politics and opinions about the competition aside I would prefer to see Atletico win. That goes for any Madrid showdown.

Its a tough one.. I think Real's class will win out over Athletico's dogged never give up style. I think the game will be won over 90 mins this time.. Its hard to back against a team with Ronaldo, Bale etc etc So with that in mind, Real to edge it...

I'm a Real Madrid supporter, so I hope you're right (and I think you will, I see the 11th coming to the Bernabeu stadium back since november) but the team that has historicall has given more problems to Real Madrid has been Atlético. And with the rough matches that Simeone designs, even more. If only the quality could decide the match, there would be no chances for atleti (as is called popularly). I think Madrid will win (real madrid is refered as madrid - we rule the city ), but the match will be very intense. And probably, boring.

Reals Record lately v Athletico would suggest problems today for Zidane's charges, however I see that trend changing later on this evening.. I'll call 2-1 Real.. With Ronaldo scoring the winner... the game we'll see before us will all hinge on who's scores first.. If Real score first, Athletico could be vulnerable.. If Athletico score first they will prove very tough to peg back as they'll probably drop further into defensive mode.. Interesting game ahead.. Enjoy it lads!

But the champions league final is the natural enviroment for real madrid. That does not guarantee a thing, but real is at its place

Well I technically got a few predictions right about the champions league final.. 1.. A Real win but close.. 2. Ronaldo did score the winner with a cooly slotted penalty.. Didn't predict a penalty shoot but 2/3 aint bad

I'll be setting up a new thread, if your interested let me know in this thread... 1 point for a correctly predicted home win, 2 pts away win, 3 points draw.. As I've said before designated home n away teams as you'll all probably know for major comp..

To avoid any copying of predictions going on within our lge, which mite occur in the latter stages of the Euros I'm thinkin of getting everyone to inbox me there predictions.. Once EVERYBODY in our lge has given me there predictions (deadline Friday 3pm BST)...then I see no issue in then discussing what you've predicted!! ONCE YOU INBOX ME YOUR PREDICTIONS, NO CHANGES WILL BE ALLOWED TO BE MADE! I'll be sending out the fixtures, i.e designated home n away teams in batches...I.e the first set of fixtures across the 6 groups, then the second set, n third... Then the ko round games ... NOTE- A few days before the second set of fixtures in each group are due to commence I will then put up in the predictions league thread the fixtures for those games.. The reason I'm deciding to release fixtures in batches to predict is because it gives people more chance of predicting a result with a little more accuracy, i.e team form can change, injuries etc.. At the end of each set of group games I will then release the points standings in our league! Hope we get a few signed up.. It should be fun!! The Euro 2016 Predictions League thread will be set up in the coming days with the first batch of fixtures.. Let me know what you all think of what I've stated here so far as opinion is healthy.. all in all though I think it's a fair set up..
