I am planning my first trip outside the U.S. to Rome, Italy. I am skeptical about renting a car. The driving is not a problem for me, it's the parking. When parking for shops, restaurants, and museums, are there street parking? Metered stalls? Parking lots? Basically, what's the parking situations in Rome, Italy? Thanks

I have been to Rome but chose not to drive, it is ridiculously chaotic. Traffic is hell and parking is mostly in carparks, expensive ones apparently.

If you have a chance, try to avoid driving in bigger cities in Italy. Especially if you are not used to. It's a mess! Public transportation is your friend.

I've been over to Europe a few times and I echo the idea of using public transportation. The system over there is much better than it is here in the states.
