Hey Andrea The Barnacle - Palms is claiming for one of your reviews!!! (subtlety rooles) I'm totally guilty of being late for the party - but I've noticed your course last week and it's on the top of my list right now. Let's see if I can play and record it between today and tomorrow I just need to understand WTF is going on with my recording app and all that frame stuttering BS Thanks for the reminder

Pablo, Pablo, pablo here we are with your course review (finally). I played it last Sunday and then tried to get fancy with 3D text animation and stuff; too many complex object on the screen kept me from getting every mask right so after a bit of cursing I had to revert to something simpler - sorry about that. However, onto the course we go! First of all, as you know, I am a big fan of a tidy and neat plantation, and in my opinion you did a very good job about that here on The Barnacle - Palms. I like that you kept a nice balance between some heavy-planted areas and other more open-looking ones; I think it gives your course a very natural and organic feel. Sometimes though you got a little "wild" with grass (Hole #8,#10), spreading it next to the tee shot and around the green (further areas) - that I didn't like, but it is totally personal. About looks I also liked the lightning on your course - it channels a very appropriate "tropical atmosphere" with a clear view of all the key elements and, more importantly, without dropping annoying shadows on any green: great job! Lightning, plantation and what you did with elevation changes and doglegs from the tee contributes to create some stunning views: holes #2,#6 and #14 are simply amazing from the tee, amongst the most beautiful holes I've ever encountered. There's a downside though - I found the PAR 3's too spare of vegetation/details to be a part of this great course design; I reckon you had some difficulties there cause all the "WOW factor" on almost all PAR 3's is gone, especially on hole #15 which is the lowest point of this course in my opinion. There're repeating plants in very obvious patterns there, nothing catchy from the tee...I honestly felt like you were in a hurry to "close it" and move on. It's a shame cause on the other side there're a lot of beautiful details: I loved the tiny islands in the middle of the water, the beach houses on hole #12 (even if no one will probably build a building on the sand LOL ), the rock work here and there and so on. Despite that I found your design to be very nice on the eyes Liked a lot the combination of palm trees and normal trees (even if it is not always ideal and/or perfectly balanced), your bunker sculpting and placing (absolutely on point) and mostly what you did with fairway sculpting - on a design/aesthetic standpoint that is brilliant. Ultimately I wish you'd have tried to use the water more (like a lot more), both for aesthetic and gameplay purposes - I think your course would've gained a highly benefit The Barnacle is not only a pleasing course to look at, it's also very nice to play! Best thing from a gameplay point of view is your work with tee shots and routing from the tee - there're great risk/reward shots (also depending from the winds) and cuts to go for if you are confident enough. And I found very clever that on hole #3 (or #4?!) if you get stuck into the woods while trying to cut the dogleg you'll find yourself out of bounds I'm sure someone will call it for BS but I think is very clever. I also loved your fairway sculpting and shaping: huge and narrow areas are greatly mixed up with sloping surfaces to create a fair challenge, especially if the winds are blowing right to left or viceversa. Bunker placement is very good (even if I didn't like all that funky shapes) but I found water placement to be a bit weak; it comes into play just once, maybe two times. This however doesn't ruin how smooth and fun your course plays. Maybe from tee to green it is a bit too straightforward but honestly I can totally wrap my head around that Onto the greens I reckon you did a lot of testing cause I immediately felt the great balance between the firmness and other factors like green dimensions, slopes, fairway and rough firmness and pin placement. I applaude you on that cause there're a lot of designers out there just worried about preventing birdies without even thinking about accessibility and you're amongst the few that can create firm setups without enhancing frustration over the FU limit What I think you can definitely improve is the sculpting of your greens, cause here at The Barnacle I found them to be a little too flat; that'd shift the balance of the challenge towards the easy side for an experienced player who knows how to weight in rollouts, whereas -if done correctly- a more tricky routing could've resulted in a need for spot on shots with a possibly much more rewarding outcome. All in all I enjoyed the course and gave it a 8.5/10. Onto the round (played pretty solid )
