Maybe a week or so ago, during a TCGT Live stream, I mentioned in the chat that I'd like to see an "up to 25 point" (not sure what to call it besides point) in the day to day green speeds during events. Some people in the chat seemed to think it was a good idea at the time so I thought I'd throw it out here and see what others thought.
Here's how I reckoned it. We seem to always have fast greens, almost all of the time. It's become the normal speed for the tour. So much so that it really doesn't challenge many people at this point in the game. With that in mind, it would be nice to see the speeds change day to day but no more than 25 points on the scale. Example would be:
Day 1 > 185 Day 2 > 160 Day 3 > 145 Day 4 > 170
The difference from day to day could be any number but no more than 25.
This is just a suggestion for a little more variety and to also keep players from constantly being in that fast greens comfort zone.
Thoughts?

I'm all for it, also subtle variations in the firmness as well (although that can be limited by the tools at hand). Whoever has the ability to adapt to the changing conditions the best, will be rewarded. (But make sure the multi-pin thread lists all the changes for the tourney haha)

You can't be subtle with the firmness scale. There is only 3 settings. Soft, Medium, Hard.

I'll suck no matter what the conditions so whatever TGC wants to do is cool with me.

I've learned how to adjust to any given green speed, so I really don't care much.
What bugs me way more is the firmness of the green, and it's a shame - as mentioned before - that there are not more settings available for this.

What bugs me way more is the firmness of the green, and it's a shame - as mentioned before - that there are not more settings available for this. When I was setting up Horned Viper for next week I was doing everything, every firmness, every green speed, screw 25 I tried 86. It was still far to easy and just was not producing any scoring swings I wanted. So back to the drawing board I went. Unfortunately only setting that produced a course where you go out and shoot -9, turn around and play it again and only shoot -2 was Firm and Fast. End of the day I went with tees about 1000 yards in difference, pins that will cause grey hair and firmest and fastest. Course is great IMHO and almost perfect for a good match play. Greens speeds might catch you up on 1 hole, 1 putt, but putts break less the slower the greens get and it just gets easier and scores rocket down. Best setting we have to date IMHO is firm and fast, any slower, any softer, it just gets easier and easier.

That just becomes a lofting contest more than anything else, imo, but it would help if firmness had the sliding scale that green speed has. I don't have a problem with what the scores are. It's a video game. I'd rather see higher scores and more people competing for the win on Sunday than lower scores and the same 10 people competing for the win on Sunday. Save the more difficult settings and courses for the Majors and iconic events.

I don't know how people loft a 3 iron, I loft a 3 iron beyond 1 bar and it squirts all over the place on me, completely pointless for me to do that.
