I keep having trouble with fairways and terrain sculpting. The surface brushes sometimes won't cooperate. Specifically, it sometimes won't allow me to place fairways and I end up with garbage rough where I am trying to place playable surface. Tried deleting the hole, changing width, start and end distances for the auto gen line; and levelling, raising and lowering terrain. Also tried stacking brushes in grass length - both short to long and other ways. Just doesn't frigging comply. Anyone know workarounds besides starting from a clean slate?

The red brushes are the key. Most likely you are trying to place fairway in an area that was water at one time. If you go into the terrain (I think?) menu and choose sculpt land from there, you should have more success. It's a little wonky, but I got it to work before. Now I start with virtually no water on the course and create it as I need it. Works much better, at least for me.
