Ok, well I have once and for all decided that I'm just not creative enough to design and publish a Fantasy Course.
Conditions:
Medium - Medium
So here I go again with a real life re-creation of Temagami Cliffs. Temagami Cliffs is located in Temagami, formerly spelled as Timagami, is a municipality in northeastern Ontario, Canada, in Nipissing District with Lake Temagami at its heart. Temagami Cliffs has hosted no profession Golf tournaments, well the closest being the Tradio Open with prizes donated by the Mike Morales foundation.
The Temagami region is known as n'Daki Menan, the homeland of the area's Aboriginal community, most of whom are Anishnaabe (Ojibwe), living on Bear Island. The official name for this group is the Temagami First Nation. However, a larger group that includes these people, plus non-status residents and some non-residents is called the Teme-Augama Anishnabai.
Temagami Cliffs will not be found on Google maps. The land was purchased in 2008 by Sal Governale in a secret backroom deal with the then Premier of Ontario, Richard Christie for the whopping price of a sequin spotted stained T-shirt owned by Mike Morales. The land was previous occupied and stripped of it's wood by the Jon Hein logging company in the early 1950's. Jon Hein denies ever stripping his wood, but those in the know, know better.
Sal Governale then removed the stumps, and planted more then 20,000 trees completely rejuvenating the area and built this golf course for sum total of less then 1 million dollars. The 1 Million dollars was proceeds from the performing of a specific action with Richard Christie, sponsored by Ashley Madison dot.com.
It is rumoured by the first nations community and in legends passed down from the first Chief of Temagami First Nations, (Loosely translated name is Horse Tooth Jack Ass) that Temagami Cliffs is currently haunted by the great spirit of running wolfs named baba booey.
Temagami Cliffs Course management guide.
Hole 1: Clavin. Slight dogleg right. Drive, there is a bunker at the top left in the landing area, any tailwind and it can be flown, the hill if short will hold the ball in place. Miss the bunker, hit the fairway is premium, driver is the club. After that the green slopes slightly right to left.
Hole 2: Banana Nana. Many options available, with varying degrees of risk and reward. Tail wind driver will blow through the fairway making par very difficult. Big head wind driver will not make left fairway. If you get in the deep stuff, just pitch back to fairway take your lumps, this hole can generate a big number quick. Again, focus on getting in the fairway somewhere almost anywhere. Green slopes right to left and little more severe then 1.
Hole 3: Optical illusion bunker, not in play, it's way beyond the green. Front bunker is in play. Green is nearly flat, just make best shot you can, birdie awaits.
Hole 4: Fools Gold. Most difficult, right fairway is fools errand. Anywhere near right cliff, there is no shot toward green. Tailwind, driver will find top fairway past bunker setting up easy birdie with a large green, side wind, head wind, bunker is in play, play short. green is huge, slopes front to back and right to left starting near middle.
Hole 5: Long par 3, plenty of trouble awaits. 4 iron depending on wind is plenty. Green is in a bit of a bowl and slopes plenty left to right near hole. Get on the green, 2 putt and take your par. Missing green will be punished.
Hole 6: Short par 4 with some options. You can drive through tree blocking fairway and likely still find fairway or fade around it. Hole is short, 3 wood, 5 wood is also an option to find meat of fairway. Green is perched, slopes gently right to left.
Hole 7: Log Cabin. Fairway has 3 trees on the left, they will wreak a little havoc on the safe play. Either play to get past them or stay well short of them. Driver will just get past them in strong head winds. Fairway is also protected on the right with a deep bunker. Green is almost flat, birdie awaits 2 good shots. Approach shot will likely be a long iron to a large green perched on top of a log wall.
Hole 8: First of 2 par 5's to finish the front 9. A monster par 5. Do not let looks deceive you, a big big number awaits. Wind will play a huge factor here. Trade wind is usually Tail, far fairway is reachable, however you will need to carry 260. Layup will make par a very difficult score here. Also watch the caddy here, he selects 3 wood for drive, fire the caddy, 3 wood will certainly find water. Green is not reachable in 2, setting up for 3rd shot will require deep thought as well. Your best drive is to carry the water and find the left side of the fairway. You want to avoid the right side all the way down this hole. Green is gently sloped right to left, you had enough trouble getting there, an easy putt awaits.
Hole 9: Short downhill par 5. Tee shot presents many options. Hole has huge trouble everywhere. You best tee shot has to be turned around the corner, sliced around the corner if hitting driver. Left side of fairway slopes to the trees. Huge risk, but rewarded if made, punished big if not. lake cannot be carried from deep rough, if you find trees, you are looking at pitch to end of fairway. Green is large and sloped steep right to left, guarded by large deep bunker. Eagle to be had, can be birdied from near anywhere, Par is almost certain if water avoided.
Hole 10: Tighty Whitey. Driver may not be your best option, but it is an option. Fairway is guarded by bunkers and water, and tightens, rather generous layup landing area is provided. Your choice here. Green is small and guarded left and right and steeply sloped toward water.
Hole 11: Mid iron par 3 to well guarded green. Green slopes steeply back to front and towards the water, Right of pin will likely miss green, left of pin leaves a difficult putt. Line is a premium here.
Hole 12: Our fully lofted driver friends will love this hole with a tail wind, second fairway is reachable, not easily though, huge risk. You are looking at an iron from the tee, needs to be long enough to carry the corner, but not to long to go through fairway. It's 250 yards down hill to end of fairway and about 220 down hill to clear corner on right side. Center of fairway extremely difficult to find as it's steeply sloped towards the sides. Finding the fairway leaves a long approach to the best guarded green on the course. Consider layup to second fairway is an option. Green slopes right to left. Pat yourself on the back with a par or better here. A much bigger number is completely possible.
Hole 13: Choices. Short par 5, Fairway landing on drive is well guarded by 2 bunkers. A drive finding the left side of fairway leaves a blocked 2nd shot to green, extremely generous layup to second fairway is provided. The large green is well guarded on all sides.
Hole 14: The Hike. No bridge, you have to walk all the way around to the green here. Par 3. Large green, guarded on all sides, sloped left to right.
Hole 15. Weedabits. Try and find the fairway here however you decide. Green is sloped right to left and well guarded.
Hole 16. Do Not Pass Go. Trouble right. Try and find the left side of the fairway here. Anything right is blocked and a sliced 2nd shot will be required or a layup. Green is large with gentle slopes.
Hole 17. No Licence. Driver will find water. Anything near water, will find water, stay well away from the water. Green is steeply sloped right to left.
Hole 18. Lakehead University. You need to drive in the fairway here, landing area is guarded but slightly more generous then it appears. Trade Wind generally blows right to left making for a difficult 2 shot. Green is 2 teired, providing a huge backstop for 3rd shot and sloping right to left.
Good luck, I have yet to go around it without making a bogie or 2, or 3, or 4.
