Week 33: Magnolia National

Welcome to Week 33 of the Speed Golf and the grand finale of Season 1.

This week we will be playing the majestic Magnolia National, by theclv24 . This course needs no introduction, and it is a wonder how a bunch of speed golfers like us managed to sneak onto the hallowed turf. We will be playing the 2016 Sunday version, and as it is the final week of this season, I'll be handing out triple points! Who will take the inaugural speed golf tour championship!?

Note: This will also be the last time we'll play the classic "One hole to bind them", as next season we'll have a brand new warmup hole.

-6 in 17:20 or thereabouts had some very strange things happen to my putts at the hole at least 2 made 180 turns instead of dropping oh well haha

I said i will quit but couldn't resist this at all. I will do anything to play Magnolia.

I just feel like i can't play speed golf anymore. My putting sucks when i play quick and to make a load of them i have to waste time which i don't like doing.

Anyway i shot -7 in about 14:44

Should have been better.

I'm not a speed golf player really, but doesn't it make sense to take an extra 3-5 seconds on a putt?  IIRC 1 stroke gained is 24 seconds lower on the total tally.  It's a risk/reward kind of thing I guess.

I must admit i got a tingly feeling inside again when playing Magnolia. It's that special to me

That was a weird round, made 2 eagles on the par 5s on the back, had two chip ins, two chips roll back to my feet, ended -6 with no idea on the time but thought I was moderately quick. Went -4 on the last 4, really a rollercoaster round.

EDIT: No more one hole to bind them??? Devastating

I had a 1 hole to bind them. Played proper speed golf for the first 7 holes but despite being -2 after 2, I was +4 after 7. Almost quit but I decided to take more care on approach shots. I think you have to here. Much better -5 for the remaining 11 holes including a couple of close hole in ones on 12 and 16,
Stunning course and thanks fusion for setting this up. Hopefully a few changes will make it more popular for season 2.

-11 in around 15 mins. Unfortunately I don't think it will get the job done. Just missed a few too many and a costly bogey on 10.

-9 which is a little disappointing considering I was -6 after 4 holes

8 under for me, no idea on time. Can't complain though because I don't think I've done much better in Magnolia ever.

and that there is why I don't get on with speed golf any more. I just can't pull out the good rounds any more.

I think this sums up the beauty of speed golf, I'm not a great speed golfer (yet... but I have good days) but it's all about feel, quick decision making, and proper execution under pressure of a clock. In my opinion, it takes a lot more actual skill to pull off a good speed golf round compared to having unlimited time to calculate everything out before every shot.

Another rage quit for me after maxing out in hole 9. Pretty demoralized on speed golf right now. When I started I enjoyed it but I was too slow. Now I'm rushing every shot but still over a minute behind the leaders and not really having fun.
