I have just finished my first real course, called Tar Hill Golf Club. It is based off of Tobacco Road in North Carolina, with holes winding through a forest filled with assorted dunes and lakes. At par 72 and 7148 yards it should provide a decent challenge to newbies and veterans alike. Just bring your A game for putting-the greens here can get a little tricky This is the 17th green. This is a well designed, well thought out golf course. I played my round in medium to high winds, and no matter the direction or speed, there was always a landing area from the tee, a sign that attention was paid during the design of the course. The course looks good, winding through a forest and does have a real world feel to it. The greens are fairly soft and slow, so pin seeking is possible at times, especially on the front nine. I found the back nine a little bit more difficult with good pin positions and the thirteenth had me for breakfast, despite it having a large green, the pin position has a smaller safe landing zone, if accurate, no reason why birdie can not be made, I was not accurate. The green is elevated and when the ball rolls, it rolls off, great golf hole, birdie more than possible, double bogey for me for not paying enough attention. I found the fairway on sixteen a bit narrow, in itself that's fine, but to me it did not seem to fit in with the rest of the course, it takes nothing away from the playability of the course, just a personal opinion on the visuals really. The course might be on the easy side for better players, for the average player like me, it's spot on, nice variety in the holes, approachable greens( I have banished 13 from my memory) where putts can be made. Go play, it's worth a few minutes of your time.
