I really don't know how to feel after that round. practice was average, I hoped for -9 to -10. I found the first few holes difficult. When I birdied the first 4 and only missed a birdie chip on the 5th by inches I had a feeling my good start wouldn't continue. Birdie on holes 6 to 15 changed my mind. This was my best round ever, I was even leading Ian Sweeny. I had a feeling now that I could birdie every hole. What a position that would put me in. The par 5 16th was long into the wind and I was left an 80 yard pitch in. I took a 90 pitch, added some loft but the wind must have caught it and I ended around 20 foot short. My longish uphill putt was right on target but inches short. One of the most gut wrenching pars of my TGCT career. Still an amazing round was still in the cards. I have no idea what happened on 17. My approach shot was 30 yards short. I'm guessing I had worked out the distance for a tail wind rather than head wind. I flopped on but my ball rolled back. Again, I had a longish uphill putt but this time for par. I missed again, short again. A par on the last only compounded my errors. Still an excellent score but this could and should have been my best ever. I should be leading now!

You spoke too soon lessangster but thanks anyway Yeah round 2. More of a train crash than a roller coaster ride. All was great with a made birdie putt on 1. A disasterous bogey followed on 2, and with only 1 birdie on the next 3 holes I was a disappointing -1. I needed something to spark the round into life, a 1 bounce hole out on the 6th certainly did that and I followed it up by 4 more consecutive birdies. What followed was the crash part of the train journey, 3 putts from very close in on 12 took the wind out of my sails. I had chances to birdie after that but missed them all apart from a singe ironic birdie on the 17 which happened to be the only hole I bogied on round 1. After being pretty much in the lead after 15 holes I'm on the cut line after 36. -13 followed by -7 and that's why I'll struggle to make it as far as the Euro tour!!

Really thought I was in for another week of frustration when on the 2nd hole my approach caught the slope to the right of the pin and found heavy rough, and then my 3-foot par put bounced off the back of the cup for bogey. But suddenly afterwards, I caught fire firing 12 birdies over the final 15 holes and following that up with two eagles and 11 birdies in a bogey-free round 2. Tricky downhill side-swipers dropped. Uphill putts found the side door, and multi-break putts flattened out at the cup.
I skipped last week, but played extremely well the last two rounds at Country Springs and followed it up with two great rounds to start this week. Fairways are extremely wide and hilly, so finding the best area (best angle to the pin, or the flattest lie) is the key to scoring well.
-11, -15 for -26 and a share of 2nd heading to the weekend.

Wouldn't be able to walk properly due to my huge nads! I'd have a large throne constructed to hold my huge nads and be served by hot ladies.... Er, did I say that out loud?
