Before I have too much to drink, I wanted to ask a question. No, really. I have a legitamate question. Stop laughing, I mean it. I REALLY HAVE A QUESTION!!!! Has anyone tried to make a beach front? You know, like when you go to the beach. Like "Gilligan's Island" beach. Like "Jaws" beach (without the blood). A beach like in the picture below. A non-nude beachNow, I have tried the Tropical theme, and used the blue fuzzy "raise" brushes to lower the landscape just below the waterline, but all that happens is that the turf comes up almost to the edge (in other words, no beach sand as in the picture). I tried laying large bunkers to make it look like a beach front, but that was as successful as one of my golf shots. I also tried using a surface brush, but that didn't go too well either. I kept trying to do this over and over again, and I ended up throwing my controller against the wall (no, it didn't break it). Finally, it dawned on me....Why not ask this question to all of my more successful and charismatic golf buddies on the TGC Tours Forum! Maybe there is no way to do it (create a beach front that is), but if there is a way, I know one of you guys will spill the beans. Just something that goes step by step. Something that is easy to understand for individuals such as myself who have limited intelligence. I have decided to put my life on hold until I get an answer, so please hurry. Thanks.

Do you mean something like this? That looks somewhat like what I am trying to achieve (it's hard to see right now....my eyes are blurry at the moment from all the gas fumes of the cavity fluid in this place). I am trying to get the "sand" of the beach to go right into the water without any edge to it. It is like every time I try to make the damn sandy beach, the course designer lines the edge of it with a different terrain (kind of looks like a rockish terrain). By the way, that looks like a kind of cool beach cove course your building there. I'm gonna be waiting to play that bugger.

Mine has it, you just can't see it, until you focus right in on it. Thanks for your comment too, I'm working on making it deform the course slightly at high and low tides. Still a long way to go though, good luck with your beach project.

You need to create a very large bunker, or series of bunkers that run off the coast of your course.
BoomBoom's Horned Viper has this, and pyates' Tye Dunes and Marazion both have it. Arctic Fury's Oceanic Athletic Club has a really nice one too.
But, as hootbleet said before, if you zoom right up to it, you can see the rocky-edged terrain. But from a distance, it looks great.

I am going to approach it like they taught us in restorative arts...."Just go for the illusion of it". Perhaps if I bring the edge of the sand up a bit, it will hide the rockish edge a bit. I will come down to trial and error. I think that this problem will require a couple of shots of Patron. Good luck with your course as well.

Hey, thanks for the course references. I definitely will be looking at the courses you listed so I can get a visual of how it looks. Hell, I might as well be a bogey beast on those damn courses too. I have plenty of back-up controllers for when I break the ones I have. Thanks again for the beach-front course listings.

Hey, so I was really glad that someone else had the same question that I did. This helped me out a ton with my tropical course. I have a slightly related question though if anyone happens to know the answer. I'm trying to build a course that hops across multiple islands and for the life of me I can't get this game to let me place fairway on islands, just rough and heavy rough. If anyone can help with this it would be greatly appreciated... I doubt people want to try and whack a 3 iron 212 yards from the rough across the water to the pin.

That happens when some of the land was below the water level. You need to use the red sculpting brush to flatten the base terrain. Go to the terrain menu and select sculpt. Then select FLATTEN. The shape should appear red. This is what is meant by "the red brush." Change the elevation of your brush way high (like a couple hundred feet) and then click over the area where you want to lay fairway. If you've raised your base terrain enough, the fairway will appear. Here's a thread from HB's forums that may help. www.hb-studios.com/forum/index.php?topic=13621.0Oh, and no one wants to try to carry 200 yards from the rough. Please make sure you have some bail-out area a player can safely hit should they miss the fairway, even if it's 100 yards out from the pin.

The problem was I could only lay rough for the shot, the fairway just wasn't showing up. Thanks for the help! Saved my day. Hmm, well, spoke to soon. Seems like it just doesn't want to work on the PC (like a lot of things, not a great port).

Been puttering away on a course for a couple months, only 2 holes in, when I run out of ideas or get bored laying retaining wall, I work on my beach.

THX, but I'm only about 400 yards into my planned 5000 yards of boardwalk.
