Know this has been mentioned before, but it's something i feel pretty strongly so thought i'd post this.
The current season is scheduled to be 49 weeks long. There will be an awful lot of people (myself included) who will probably play each and every week.
However, I feel limiting pro players to 40 events per season (or per calendar year) would improve the tours, and keep things fresh, in several ways.
- Sometimes it's nice to take a break. This place is great, but it can get a bit relentless. Obviously we aren't forced to play every week, but you know every time you don't play you're losing out on your respective money list/the WGR. It would be nice to have a week off, come back refreshed, and know you haven't lost anything as long as you hit your 40 events over the season
- New names at the top in minor events. ATM, the guys inside the Top 20 play every week, and pretty much dominate every week. Whether it's the Hero Indian Open or The Masters. If forced to miss 9 events per year, the top guys would focus on the bigger purses/events and the guys currently in the middle of the pack would have a better chance of competing at the top end of the leaderboard every now and again in the lesser events. This isn't being soft or handing them anything, it's just realistic.
- Added Strategy. For me, having to plan my schedule would add another level of immersion to this already great thing
Cons
Only a couple in my view
- You don't get to play every week. Some people literally can't get enough tournaments, and I get that. But there are several other tours out there to play, Matchplay Leagues, TST, to keep you busy if you have a week off
- Coding/Admin - How possible/difficult it would be do, I don't know. Very much Tim/Doyley's department
I'm sure there are gaping holes I've missed, but just wanted to start a discussion
