Played the practice tour that was set up for this.
Now, the first time I played this course, before I improved a bit, I shot 8 over. That was back in November for 1 round. Today, for all 4 rounds I shot 6 over. So a definite improvement. But make no mistake about it, this course is a b%&.
For those who haven't played it (and I probably should have written down a hole by hole critique) essentially you have to contend with narrow, twisting fairways, small greens, difficult approach shots around trees, long par 4s and just about everything you could possibly want to throw into a course to cause much cursing and gnashing of teeth.
In short, it wasn't fun.
I predict (for class E) that you'll still need to shoot par to make top 70 and avoid a demotion strike. Maybe if I give this course every ounce of concentration that I can, I'll have a shot at that. But I'm not very hopeful. What I don't understand is how the course directory has this course listed as "easiest"
There is no way.
Best advice I can give you is get your drive off the tee as good as you can. This is compounded by a lot of the elevated shots. You'll need to club down a lot or risk going into the rough. And with the narrow, twisting fairways, you're tossing darts at a dart board on some of these holes.
Some of the greens have terrible slopes down into the rough or back onto the fairway, so there is little room for error on approach shots. I shot a 7 on one par 4 because I couldn't get the ball to stick on the green after my 2nd shot. It was infuriating.
If you're a top player, you'll probably shoot about 8 under or so. Maybe a few 9s and 10s. If you normally shoot mid 60s, be happy with close to par. This course will chew you up and spit you out. My best round was a 2 under 70.
Good luck. You're gonna need it.

Sorry if I clog up the Leader Board on this one...but if I'm off..I just won't continue playing and I'll start over.

Some of the shots are near impossible requiring dart like precision owned only by the very best in this game. I'm not questioning or complaining about the choice of this course for the event but simply pointing out the realities of what us mortals are up against. Maybe you can rise above it. I hope so. But if you can't, it's no reflection on your play.

This is a very interesting course to play. The accuracy from the tee is a must, Mainly because of the length of the course, but there are chances out there. I played four rounds with a total of -16, and not having the rounds fully focused on the game. In the last, for example, I missed like four birdies because I hit the ball too hard.

I don't know if it's just me but I find this course to play weird. What works on other courses (clubs, lofts, putts etc) doesn't seem to here. For me it's like a twilight zone lol. Usual disclaimer, not bashing the course, just saying I find the way it plays I'm not used to. Which is good, I hate the birdie fest courses. Think I squeaked out a -17 on your tune up yesterday. As for restarts, Jim you know very well that I am prone to them myself from spamming your tune ups lol. I look at it this way, the real life pros get a driving range, get to practice the same hole over and over. We have to play a whole 18. We don't have to option of just playing one hole. Ye Old, Goldl; Saturday I restarted a good 9 times, had to dial out my slice. Then when I did, I hit a few second shots and if they were not within 10 feet I restarted. It's just part of my process. This one we are currently practicing, 3'rd set up I think it is, 1'st hole you cant hit the 2'nd part of the fairway off the tee. So yesterday I experimented with bouncing it off the little bridge to the right that runs in between that fairways, I restarted a good 8 times, I was able to hit that bridge and bounce it one the 2nd fairway about 3 times in a row. Would never do that in tournament, but again its part of my process, experiment, learn things about the course in case of emergency in tournament lol This is a very interesting course to play. One of the main reasons this course plays so weird (tough) is the winding fairways with the extreme elevations. It's difficult enough to land it on the fairway with just the winding part, but then add in the elevation and the need to club up maybe even 2 clubs, and then toss in the wind, and you might as well just blind fold yourself and shoot.
E Class is going to get hammered by this one. Only the very best will do well so I'm hoping a par finish will sneak me into the top 70. But I'm going to have to be at the very top of my game to accomplish this.

My biggest problem with this course so far is that the greens don't welcome balls very softly. It bounces a lot. Other than that, I love it.

When I'm spraying them into bunkers off the tee...I'm off. Easier just to take a deep breath and restart the practice tourney. We don't have that luxury come the live tournament...so I find it best to be on and in a groove when practicing instead of playing a rage filled round

Heh. Week 15 has just kicked off and you guys are already on 16. Love it!
Week 15 was as mentioned before much about adding some relief to what has been a tough schedule, even if that means that you add the stress of losing ground on the competition with a par, the course is easier and should offer some relief.
Week 16 is all about playing length and tee shots. I liked this course because much of the settings are identical, but it plays much different. Difficulty off the tee is also something that often get neglected, but I believe this is about to change as we see more and more courses released with the tee shot in mind.
So key for success this week is playing it safe. Stay on the fairway and don't go chasing yards off the tee. Chances are most approaches will be long anyway and 3 yards extra off the tee probably won't help you.
For this weeks practice I'd recommend taking notes of what clubs you use off the tee, where did you land and how was the wind. Come tournament day that will help you with your club choice. If there are any holes where you are having trouble on the approach id try and place my tee shot in the same area every time. Pick a side off the fairway on your first round and stick with it.
So there you have it. Good luck guys!

Yeah just one tournament a week isnt enough for some of us addicts. I do prefer these tougher courses, but get why there is a need for the easier ones when I peruse the leader boards and see people way in the high + ranges, they need a break and a chance at some fun too otherwise we will just lose them over time. I'm going to rip this course apart today, its -79 outside and dont plan on leaving the house unless there is an emergency. Heh. Week 15 has just kicked off and you guys are already on 16. Love it! This course is a true "target" course. I love the layout and you definitely have to be in the right frame of mind to put together 4 solid round. I look forward to the challenge.

So there you have it. Good luck guys! This is great advice and actually points to my biggest problem with playing this game and didn't realize it until just now. I have no idea how to tell where the landing area is. I use the XBox 360 controller on PC. I hit the Y button to zoom to the landing area. But the area the software shows me is so huge that it's almost useless. It would be nice if it actually had like an "x" saying "Your ball lands here" assuming no wind. But instead I'm shown about a 60 yard spread that does me almost no good. So here's the $64,000 question and I don't know why I haven't asked this sooner. After you hit that Y button and the software zooms to the landing area, how do you actually tell where the ball is going to land, within a reasonable distance, assuming no wind? If I could at least figure out where the software is pointing to (right now I really have no idea) this would help me a lot in planning my drives. Thanks.
