Has anyone attempted to use fairways as greens well? I know it sounds a little gimmicky but gives the chance to make fairways more narrow while making them still look fairly wide. It also allows for more distance off the tee. So we can drive it about the distance (290-300) the PGA tour pros do and play the same length holes (ie. 490 par 4 and still have an iron in) as they do as well.
Also, can't imagine anything more infuriating than waiting 15 seconds for my drive to stop and it rolling down the side slope into a bunker

I've not done this... Yet, but I have been meaning to try a links style course with a patchy mix of fairway and green textures throughout. I think it could make for a really interesting course. Would have to be done extremely well to work. I'd probably set fringe to max and texture match the green to fairway so it was subtle. Making it patchy, if it looked OK would mean you'd be able to aim for the fairway for bounce and green texture for roll... I think you'd see a lot of variation in drive distances. It might not work but I'm sure as hell going to experiment This something you have tried?

I tried this, taking my course Tye Dunes and painting the fairway with green textures. It made a big difference to drives. Suddenly the longest drives land on fairway and then run on green from second bounce. I found two drives side by side, one landing on fairway and ending on green p, then other doing the opposite, were around 20 yards different. It's significant enough to make for a different playing experience.
This could possibly work for a links course, or a proper fantasy course with green channels joining various parts of the course. I'm tempted to revisit it at some point, for now it's nestling away at the back of my mind.
Getting it to look right is a big part of the challenge. Quick tip if anyone is wanting to try it, you can paint really patchy bits of green by shrinking a brush right down and clicking and holding it whilst moving back and forth. At first it will paint nothing but, from second paint onwards, where the paths cross it makes patchy bits of fairway. Hoping someone else will give it a go

how would this work with relation to "chipping on green" rules? You'd have to make sure to have a barrier of some kind showing where the green starts.

How about if we could get some some spray-paint white dots from HB to put on the course?
