So I was looking through my iPhone last night and came across all my golfing pictures. Thought I would share them and show you guys the golf courses I get to play regularly.
Furry Creek Golf and Country Club - Furry Creek, BC
www.golfbc.com/courses/furry_creek
This course is about an hour from where I live, half way between Vancouver and Whistler. One of the most scenic golf courses in BC, Furry Creek is a fun course with some strange (some good strange and some bad strange) holes. This course is where the infamous Bob Barker/ Happy Gilmore scene was filmed (on hole 9). This course is only 6025 yards from the tips, but one of the trickiest ones around. It does have a reputation of being a bit "silly".
Hole #1 Tee. Short par 4 with a 125 foot drop to the fairway. A nice view to start the day!
Hole #10- short par 3.
Hole #14- One of the prettiest par 3's in the world. A faux island green in the ocean. This hole is worth the green fee.
#14- Never gets old no matter how many times I play it.

Big Sky Golf and Country Club - Pemberton, BC
www.bigskygolf.ca/
I played this course two summers ago. Located in Pemberton, about 20 minutes north of Whistler. About a 2.5 hour drive from my place but well worth it. Played it on a dry, HOT, windy day. Played terribly but didn't care. Voted one of the top 30 golf courses in Canada.
Clubhouse- All about the mountains here.
Hole #1 tee.
Hole 3 (I think) green
Can't remember which hole this was but it had the best view from the tee. As you can see from the backswing, I put a bit more into this than usual. Watching that ball in the air with that mountain in the back...favorite tee shot I have ever hit.
Hole #10 tee- striking a pose. My old profile pic.
Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club- Coquitlam, BC
www.westwoodplateaugolf.com/
Ah Westwood Plateau. One of my favorite courses in the area. Probably because I worked in Outside Services there for three years to supplement substitute teaching. Another great mountain course that winds its way through a suburb. A great challenge here, I don't think I have ever broken 80 here (played this course at least 60 times). Countless times I would end my shift at 4, change clothes, hop in a cart and play a quick 18 while closing up the course. This course can get very spooky at night taking down after a tournament...lots of things moving in the bushes. This is the one course I try to recreate in TGC but can never quite get it to look how I want.
Hole #1
Hole #12- A very pretty short par 3.
Christina Lake Golf and Country Club- Christina Lake, BC
www.christinalakegolfclub.com/
The local club of a popular BC interior tourist destination, this is where I learned to play golf. I spend my childhood out at my grandparents' cabin at Christina Lake and every day would start out with 18 holes, with time to be back before lunch so we could swim and boat the rest of the day. Junior memberships were $150 bucks. I would get my moneys worth with about 75-100 rounds per summer! This is now about 6 hours from where I live now, so sadly I don't get out as much. Only course as far as I know to feature black "sand" bunkers. The sand is known as slag, a harmless waste product from a nearby mine. I find the slag to be much more consistent than most sand! I know every inch of this course!
Hole #11- par 5. Favorite par 5 of the course.
Hole #11
Hole #12- great little par 3. My dad's only spot where he has hit a hole in one (and reminds me every time we play)
#12 green
#14- my favorite hole on the course. A short par 4.
Pagoda Ridge Golf Club - Aldergrove, BC
www.pagodaridge.ca/
This course took me by surprise of how great it was. It's only 15 minutes from my house and was only built a couple years ago, so I gave it a go this summer. Great track. The clubhouse is a large pagoda and there is a replica "great wall" that runs throughout the course. A bit odd, but just adds to the charm. Here's a couple pics of my favorite hole, a 280 yard par 4. Driveable, but if you are even a few feet long, your ball is down the 300 foot embankment. Played it twice this year. Kept it on the green the first time...over the ravine the second.
Morgan Creek Golf and Country Club - Surrey, BC
Another course just a short drive from where I live, Morgan Creek is my absolute favorite course in the area. Beautiful, challenging and exceptionally maintained. A bit pricey, but I always try to get in at least one twilight round here per year. Here is a pic of Hole #12. A beauty risk/reward par 5. On another note, I found a $100 bill on the fairway here this summer. Nobody came to claim it, so it was a nice dinner at the end of the round!
These are just a few of the courses I get to play regularly. If you are ever in Vancouver and want to golf, let me know!
