I know that Q school here is designed to replicate real life and to get guys into tours quickly...but I had his crazy idea come to me as I was dozing off for a nap and thought I'd throw it out here for discussion for kicks & giggles.
Instead of the way it is with 6 courses they play and report in....we change it to:
A four week "Q Tour". Any time someone signs up, they're automatically placed in the "Q Tour" for evaluation.
Now, the Q Tour wouldn't have special courses...they would play the same course that the Web.com tour will be playing that week. The Web is basically the "middle" tour and would be a good measure of a golfer's overall skill.
They would play and report their scores as any other tour. This would get them prepared for how we handle tournaments, registration deadlines, accuracy in reporting. etc. It would also allow those of us on TGC to get to see, know and welcome the new players. Spot someone who could be a new threat to the big dogs. Watch for someone who has a breakout early.
Then their scores each week would not be against arbitrary numbers (i.e. -10 to -20 total is PGA, +40 to +50 vs. par CC-D, etc.) They would be measured against the cut line for Web.
So, if someone is 0 to 10 strokes better than the cut line, they would go to Web. 0 to 10 strokes worse, CC-A...and so on. (Those numbers could be discussed and set by whoever would do it.)
This would give us "real world" testing for the new players and perhaps increase accuracy for when someone "graduates" to the main tours they will be on a level that's best suited for them.
Thoughts?
