I keep seeing comments all over the forum about players wishing to increase their consistency. Well guess what,,, they have achieved it,,,, because the levels of commenting on consistency i.e closed loop commenting is steadily on the increase,,, and great to see. This shows genuine interest in the tours and the good competitive spirit it is nurturing amongst us all.
Perhaps what we really mean is that we want to increase our putting skills or more accurately to reduce our putting stats per hole.
For what it is worth I would regard myself as a middle of the road European Tour player with amatuer level (I do not earn a living from playing online TGCT) aspirations to achieve and then remain in the TGC top 50 rankings or higher if possible.
What I see happening outside of the focal point top 10 or indeed top 5 ranking players is a very obvious and steady increase in the overall standard of golf being played as reflected by increasing performance levels and more difficult cuts being laid before us with each passing week.
So what is separating the better progressing players from the rest ? In my humble yet highly handsome and modest opinion the following ratio offer food for thought. Debate all ye like. I'M RIGHT !!! just sayin like... cough....
1) Ability to drive, approach, calculate wind, elevation and run out comes to 10%
2) Ability to pitch and flop comes to 10%
3) Ability to chip into the hole more than 7 to 8 times out of 10 (10 out of 10 for chips of 7 yards or less) comes to 30%
4) Ability to sink average putts comes to 50% (average putts would be defined as anything inside 20 feet and you should aim for 25 to 40ft if carrying world golfer ranking No 1 asperations).
So for the Einsteins' amongst us - the question becomes (dork in CSI Miami) how do I improve my putting - how do I better seal the deal - i.e. 1) better read the greens and 2) better execute and slot my putts ?
Following months of intensive investigative reporting all roads have lead to Area 51 files which have recently been opened to the public (allegedly). At last the solution to consistency is at hand
.
Yes,,, Ian Sweeney is a product of alien genetic manipulation. Unfortunately they short dosed putting plasmids when operating on Tom Humphries and the unforeseen side effect has been 99.9% chipping skills with cause & side affect algorithmic moaning. That said, you can't believe everything you read about the world No 1 and No 8. Not so, however, with regard to some other high ranking TGCT players who unfortunately due to issues surrounding non elapsed alien treaty and national security cannot at this time be named.
So what have we learned that can be shared about becoming a better putter of the ball ? Stand by for updates !
Update : -
11/12/15 - Well 10 days have now elapsed since our preliminary investigations have uncovered, amongst other things, that what really matters in relation to true consistency on TGCTours is PUTTING !!
All files have been unlocked and continue to be trawled through with new and unexpected facts emerging day by day. For instance there is actually no truth to the rumour as to how TROWELHEAD got his name TROWELHEAD, however, having said that he is renowned for excellent stroke and tempo which usually results in a smooth finish outcome - a factor that should not go unnoticed when observing his putting skills when in full flow. Sometimes confused with falling asleep at the wheel a very smooth tempo should be something that we all better appreciate and strive to master, preferably while awake !
Putting is what it is all about so what about the science. Using feet and inches we can offer a few useful tips based on freedom of information clauses released just in the past few days. No 1 and No 8 legal representatives, it must be said, continue to put a block on full disclosure, however, through a combination of litigation loopholes, piecing the jigsaw and simple presumptive math, we can without fear of contention reveal the following : -
1) Black holes - by having the ability to pin point black holes on the green is is invariably possible to accurately rendezvous with the hole by bending pixels and time. The following points will explain this in simple terms.
2) We have uncovered that "lag" during the round is in fact due to black hole opening and closure events on any or several of the greens while you are playing on the course.
3) We have invariably begun background secondary investigatory work, foot work, on which golfers are mostly playing on courses where lagging is experienced ? Very interesting trend data thus far we can confirm !!
4) Putt missing by the hole on your screen but falling into the hole on your opponent's screen is non verifiable evidence of such events - we are still pulling jigsaw pieces together on this one.
5) Who possesses black hole opening and closing technology ?
6) The clandestine use of this technology in a matter of seconds and at low frequency can easily go unnoticed, but not by US !!
7) Such actions are clearly linked to aliens and their co-conspirators who undoubtedly happen to show the trait of being impatient aliens, the ones that constantly moan in general or more specifically perhaps might moan about other honest, handsome, intelligent, patient and babe magnet golfers whom they pressurise by labelling as slow players. Just cos we can't access black holes willy nilly !!!
8) There definitely would appear to be a strong correlation also between feet and inches in 3D to the naked eye but we have uncovered evidence of 4D math equation balancing. What hope have us humans on 2D screens ?
We continue to pursue trails of investigation along all of the 8 summary points above and we vow to revert with updates to TGC members just as soon as all new information becomes known to our team and has been cleared by our legal team.
The truth shall out and with that in mind be assured that any TGC members found to be in cohuuts with these conspirators have much to fear. They know who they are and soon, so will all of us, just sayin like !!!
Until our next definitive update.
Have fun looking for dem holes !
Conclusion: -Well,,, in keeping with our vowed promise to complete this trilogy - all information gathering, processing and correlation has now drawn us to the following inescapable conclusions.
Putting is important.
This is founded upon closed loop factual conclusion incorporating supposition supported by presumptive cause and effect.
To be clearer, and in detail that can easily be understood and applied in practice by us all - the following factors in ascending order must be computed when standing over and evaluating the execution of your TGC putts.
1) Am I on the green ? If you are off the green with a putter in your hand then I'm sorry but you are one of 2 kinds of sh@t. (golfer or chicken !!).
2) Am I on the green again ? Communication can be misleading so it is imperative that the number of putts addressed be minimised. Top Tip No 1.
3) Keep bogeys off your card. This is achieved by keeping them off the greens. Top Tip No 2.
4) Now that you are lapsing, as you build your putting stance, into the correct frame of mind it is imperative to avoid distraction. Make sure it's a putter in your hands.
5) The following clutter must be eliminated from your mind. Green speed, elevation, undulations between grid lines, snow blindness on greens with no green grids, proximity of hole to the on-green cliff slopes, quantity, speed and shimmer from red lines, wind sheer (front and rear) the rear applies more so to golfers with the name Rob, rates of acceleration and deceleration in relation to hole cursor preset positioning, lieing ass lines, sporadic black holes, should I or should I not answer that bloody phone in the other room ?, what's that smell
- did I forget to bring the dog out again ? where's my beer assistant
STOP !!! STOP!!! TOO MUCH CLUTTER, step away from the putt and regroup...pause for breath and move to 6) -
6) Zoom to the hole, drop down and draw back toward yourself reading the undulations just as much as the general grid lines. Don't trust the grid lines and especially don't trust your eyes reading the undulations.
7) Maintain a level of confidence. Any bloody level of confidence.
8) Last TOP TIP No 3 before swinging the putter - look to see what grid line and undulation movement exists just at the final point of energy release immediately around the hole itself. Makes folk think that you know what you are doing !!!
9) As you enter into the putting back swing be sure to eliminate the next wave of clutter from your mind. Why the fc@k did'nt I put a tad more loft on the approach wedge shot ? Why do I always have to be in charge of the bloody chat room invitations ? Is it really true that any Canadian with the word Wheel in their name cannot be trusted ? Do people with the word Hump in their names really get the hump about every little bloody thing ?
10) Now without any further delay smoothly enter (in theory) into the downward and forward swing. It's already too late !
11) In that critical time lapse between ball contact and follow through - prepare yourself to A) sound smug and a genius at putting or B) consult and quote from the book of excuses attached to your hip !!
12) Remember, that taking tap ins' is nothing to be ashamed of .... ........... .................. ................... ............................. ..... .............. ............. ............. honest !
13) As you magically and instantaneously move to the next tee box with your ball, without having bent down to retrieve it from the hole, fill your mind now with valuable clutter !!
14) Why do I get myself so FUBAR about putting and work myself up into a mind melt when all I have to do is average -10 or better per round !!!
15) Congratulations - you've cracked it !!!!
