It's long. It's fast. It's tough. It's not taking prisoners. I went on a mission to build a course that would challenge every club in the player's bag and I believe I have done so. This 7,500 yard par 70 monstrosity has no light rough and no forgiveness for missing the target. It will help you miss with its sloping fairways and greens producing numerous sidehill lies to encourage the ball into one of the deep bunkers or steep runoffs. There are features of this course designed to add to its difficulty, not through the problem it will cause to the shots themselves, but to unease the golfer's frame of mind. Such features are blind shots, vast height differences, narrow escapes, and the name of the course itself: the ratel (or honey badger) is possibly the most ferocious and fearless animal in the world. Honey badgers have impenetrable skin, incredible agility and stamina, and have been known to fight with lions with success, a common fighting tactic is castration. Don't let them bite you. SCORECARD Hole Length Par 1 510 4 2 544 5 3 249 3 4 428 4 5 529 4 6 369 4 7 185 3 8 448-455 4 9 508 4 10 289-300 4 11 506 4 12 461 4 13 163 3 14 479-505 4 15 508-531 4 16 613-653 5 17 209 3 18 512 4 7562-7610 70 I saved a lot of difficult pins for Sunday. As you head to the tee, remember these words (also on a plaque in the clubhouse lobby) from two great men of the game: "Take your par, walk away quietly." - Ken Venturi "Play for the pars, the double bogeys will come." - David Feherty Thank you.

Well I played the Sunday pin version was able to shoot a 65 for -5 which included 2 bogies.
That being said this may be the best course I have ever played. I honestly prefer the more difficult courses that are fair and this probably is by far best one I have ever played. There is no driver then throw dart at the pin here. Every shot requires precision and I honestly loved this beast of a course.
I gave it a 10 and favourited it. Awesome job with this one. Course committee, get this on the PGA/euro stat!

What a great score, wow. I played the Sunday pin last night and felt pretty delighted with a 71. That pin on the first hole, man, I think I bogied it 6 times in a row. So tough. This is as close to a U.S. Open feel I've seen in this game, amazing achievement. Great to see some tougher courses being released lately but this is one of the best. It's a long slog but it's supposed to be. Will give it another go later to see if I can break 70. Thanks for making this one!

I need to play this. Dont believe I missed this thread.
The write-up is probably the best I've read on here. The Ratel is going down - true sim style!

Great course man. All tournaments should have more courses like this. Enough with the -40/-50 scores. This was nicely designed and didn't use any cheap tactics like holes on hills/slanted. Once I saw that 2nd fairway i knew I was in for a challenging round.

Fought my way to a +2. Tremendous design. You should either be given a trophy or get arrested.
Seriously though, there were several times during the round that I found myself saying aloud, "that's the correct club, right?"
Also held my breath for 75% of the round.
Lots of fun, and like everybody else has said, challenging, but not cheap and tricky.
Well done, I'll try that again sometime. Those Sunday pins are naaaaasty.

It is with enormous pleasure that we announce The Ratel at Widow's Cross will be hosting the 2016 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. An official statement will be released soon.

I've only played the Thursday pin so far and I'm impressed.
This is how challenging golf courses should be set up IMO. OK, so it's F/F and half the people that play it aren't going to like it for that reason. For me it got the balance right of being difficult but fair, tee shots had to be thought about and approaches fed in to take advantage of the terrain. No upturned saucer pins here(a pet hate of mine), there always seemed to be a flat area around the pin so that you could lag putts from distance without fear of rolling miles away from the pin. That also made chipping an absolute pleasure around here, every time I had that dreaded 13-18 yard shot, I was able to chip instead of playing stupid flop shots, which are required on most courses(I hate having to do that)
The jury is still out as I've only played one setup. But for me this was a cut above many of the courses that I've played recently, I had that buzz back of really enjoying playing a round of golf. I gave it a ten and added it to my favourites. The absolute joke is that it was rating at 4.1 on PC before I played my round. It just goes to show that people mark down courses for being difficult, I've never understood that?

I wudn say for certain tats why ppl mark down courses Brad...i rate based on if i enjoy playin them....the difficulty is not relevant to me (in terms of rating). Some of the best courses in the game are difficult. Sent from my SM-A500FU using Tapatalk

Yeah, i noticed the 4.1.
Played the Thurs version and shot a 66 (-4) with the one bogey.
Think this a good, fair test. Have always liked the idea of heavy rough surrounding the fairways to negate how easy straight driving is.
Main plus for me is that going out here you go out with the mentality the tour pros do every single day - target the shorter, easier holes for birdies, play sensibly the rest of the way and if you can make a few putts, there's a score to be had.
My only complaint would be that it's a little too long. I get the reason behind it, but it would have been just as tough @ 7200/7300 yards and you still would have been able to reach every Par 4 in whatever wind.
Overall though, great job, will seriously consier crossing over to play this on the PGA
