Ive noticed when around the 100 yard distance when I have a tailwind or headwind Im either pitching to far or short. It seems like if I make zero adjustments due to the wind its getting much closer to my target.
So if im 150 out with a 10mph head wind im hitting it around 165 yds. Now move into 90 yards and I have the same headwind. Im still hitting this one 90 yards lately because it seems the wind doesnt affect distance somewhere in the 100 yd range. Anyone else see this or have any tips as to when the wind will affect the distance or not?

The ball doesn't get affected as much because it has less distance to be affected. A 10mph wind is not that strong so I'd probably ever so slightly lower my sand wedge from that position personally.

So at around 100 yards you just stop taking the wind into account as far as total distance, but just loft up some to compensate? I wish that was true with chipping. never seen wind affect chips, but here it does.
Do you think its distance, type of shot, or maybe even both that determines this? Im just trying to figure out how far out i can stop adjusting for tail/headwinds. Ive hit a few shots 10 yards over the hole from around 100 in.

Now, I'm not very good at this game, but I've noticed that the wind barely affect the ball when pitching and I tend to prefer using a normal swing instead. 69 meters for me is a Sw pitch (I think its SW) or a LW normal swing. I use the LW every time. Yes it gets more unpredictable sideways but I get more control on where the ball will stop.

Ill try to get some practice in this weekend. Im interested to see if pitching or normal makes a difference.

Yeah a pitch keeps the ball lower than a normal full swing so gets affected less.

I understand pitching not being affected so much as you are hitting it lower to keep it "under" the wind. However I agree that the normal 100-120 yds shot does not seem to be affected much by a tail wind. These are going higher than most shots so I would expect the wind to still impact. Last night I had a level 130yd+ shot with a 12mph tail wind and I thought a 120yd PW hit 100% would be ok but it only went 120 yds like the wind had no impact. Is anyone else seeing this?

I've never had that, BUT what I have had in my first two rounds of the PGA event is the following...distance to pin 130 yds, flat shot, I plan my shot to land at 127 yds, hit the shot perfectly, ball lands on the green at 127 yards and I'm 10 yds short of the pin...I begin yelling at the TV, "THAT'S NOT FAIR!" Can anyone explain that? I've noticed the distances have been way off at times. Anyone else seeing that

To answer the original question, it stops impacting it when your ball stops.

No matter how far you are away from the pin, wind behind and against cannot be equal. There must be a certain amount of friction generated hitting into the wind. I think what is catching people out here, are the greens themselves.

I can vouch for these guys as sometimes my shots wont even make the green even when I've calculated for elevation so something can't be right as you are very much correct there must be some wind effect at least even if its a couple of yards.

The ball is not in the air for as long so the wind can't affect it as much. If it's up/down hill this will affect it even more so. Here's 3 different scenarios. pw - 10mph tail wind - flat shot. I would expect the ball to fly an extra 6-8 yards. A 6 iron - an extra 9-10 yards Pw- 10mph tail wind - uphill 20ft. Would expect ball to fly an extra 2-4 yards. 6 iron - extra 6-8 yards Pw - 10 mph tail wind - down hill 20ft. Would expect ball to fly an extra 8-10 yards. 6 iron - extra 12-14 yards The ball in in the air for less time when its uphill so the wind won't take affect as much. Vice versa for down hill. Simply put, the longer the ball is in the air, the more affect the wind will have. So the shorter clubs (lw, sw, pw) don't get affected as much as say a 5,6, or 7 It's also important to know that a head wind has more affect on a ball than a tail wind. Why? I'm sure someone can explain it better than me but my reason is it just does! Haha It takes practice and being in countless scenarios to work out the affect of wind in this game. I've been playing for 8 months now and still haven't mastered it. Good luck
