First time I swung a driver in 12 months the other day. Here's a video of it. Any tips from you more accomplished golfers out there? xxxhttps://vid.me/delete/231v5pojn2kg4k0osgckg0wwsFuzion: Edited link: vid.me/X2c7

Had a bit of a look at it for you. Taking a break from playing myself at the moment as between clubs but was 4.5hcp at my lowest.... Feel free to take or ignore my advice 2 things. Firstly your head moves a lot up and down. In general a rotating, but ultimately still and solid core will help you with power and consistency. The biggest problem from what I can see with the driver is that you are starting to turn too early. You rotate towards the ball almost immediately meaning your hands are having to play catch up and whip at it. They are also coming down sharply as a consequence. Letting the hand drop first should give you more time to make a better connection. That's what it looks like to me anyway

Always watch out with Internet tips on your golf swing. Go see a professional as there are too many factors involved to say anything from a single video. And hacks like me will have an opinion without neccessarily knowing what we are talking about...
I would agree with Pyates however, but finding the cause for that effect I guess will be in your set up more than anything. Right elbow to right hip as an intention from the top could maybe help with your sequence.
And don't care too much about head up and down. A better point to track is center thorax as that is what you should be rotating around. Both are effect though and not cause and it's hard to swing well focusing on them...

Yeah 100% right there, often we tend to add things to our swing, extra swing thoughts, extra actions, setup steps. All of it tends to reach a single mess of confusion. When playing my best I had little or no swing thoughts. Just what I was hitting and where. If you can find and fix the route cause then the rest will start to fall into place. Pro is definitely best person to see

Cheers for the feedback guys. I tend to be quite a straight hitter but don't hit it very far. Looking at this video it seems to be, like you said, that I start the downswing to quickly, not finishing my backswing. Cheers.

Try starting your downswing very slowly for the first foot and then accelerate through the ball. Try this on the practice range first. I used to play with a guy who swung in slow motion from the top right down until hip high then all you heard was a woosh as the club head accelerated through the ball and he was a big hitter. You can waste a lot of energy hitting from the top so your actually decelerating when you hit the ball.

Then maybe I can consistently be better than double bogey on each hole.

A buddy of mine is a golf pro...reigning senior Canadian Long Drive Champion...this is what he told me one time about my swing.
"Jim..you've got the ugliest swing I've ever seen...but you're always square at contact"....."it's not how pretty it looks...it's how it ends that counts"

"Jim..you've got the ugliest swing I've ever seen...but you're always square at contact"....."it's not how pretty it looks...it's how it ends that counts" Never a truer word said, look at all the greats Nicklaus Palmer Player Trevino Furik Bubba all had distinctive swings but they all have one thing in common they are all square through the ball. All their impact positions look nearly identical but they have a different way of getting there.
