Hey reeb, I'm always interested in feedback, especially yours. However I think this one is going to be out there, never been seen, never been done and I'm sure it will not please the realists, although not to the extreme of an early Sam design. I was hoping for some colour to round out my idea, but I drew the most bland theme we have, but I'm forging forward in any event.

So, normally on these contests no reviews or judges cards or anything like that is given out when the contest is over. Since I'm going to help out with judging on this one I want to make an offer for anyone that would be interested. When the contest is over I would be happy to provide a typed out course review with what I liked or suggestions I'd have for anyone that may want one. It wouldn't have anything to do with the scoring or judging or anything like that. A nice hole by hole write up can sometimes be helpful simply because it may point out some ideas or things you didn't think about. I ask for them on my own courses all the time and can tell you they are always helpful even if I don't agree or like my idea better for a hole. If you don't want that kind of feedback that's totally fine. I simply wanted to offer to do it for anyone that would like. A lot of times it's not about pointing out mistakes or anything. It could simply be something like "You know a fairway runoff behind the back left of the green might be nice from a visual standpoint". That kind of stuff. Anyway, if you'd like something like that shoot me a message and I'll make note of it. Thanks! Reebdoog, I would love for you to explain your reasoning on my course. After the last par 3 contest, I was truly shocked by the results. But, we're all entitled to are own opinions. Not all asses fit the same chair comfortably ...

Can do man. I had nothing to do with the par three contest but I'm happy to give you a write up buddy!
I liked your entry. It played very well.

I have no dog in this fight, pun intended, but if you review the results show, the answers are there. These guys loved anything new, different, never been seen at least by them, not just the same realistic beautiful golf holes.
Like you say, entitled to their own opinions. If you were looking for and judging on realistic beautiful straight up golf holes, the results would of been completely different IMHO. If you were looking for something fun, playable and never been seen by them before, then the results were pretty accurate.
I can see the sense in all that, I mean really, how many times can anyone see and play the same hole over and over no matter how well done the scenery is. The results essentially showcased different in playability, not scenery if that makes sense.

*shrug* I personally didn't agree with a lot of it on the last one. But it's totally subjective and I could understand their reasoning even without agreeing with it. That's how every contest goes though really.

I think I look at technical aspects of any course design. That goes for all parts of the course. There is no skill involved with one click brush tools, and autogen'd trees, on a autogen'd hilly plot.
Yeah, some can make a good looking course using these methods, but, they all start looking like cookie cutter courses.
They're only difference is the planting and hole route.
Like I said, their show, their opinions.

Reeb is going to learn quickly that judging is a difficult job! There are so many things to take into account, but at the end of the day, I go with my gut and that first initial playthrough is very important in determining what course I will like the best. I've played and designed enough courses by now to know what I like and what I don't like pretty quickly!

Going to start my course tonight I will make it so that after the contest it can be adapted to an 18 hole course as when it wins it will obviously want to be used for the tours *RUNS BEFORE PITCHFORKS*

I've played and designed enough courses by now to know what I like and what I don't like pretty quickly! I've been a judge for musical competitions for years. I'm aware of how difficult it can be. Also I'm aware of how angry folks can get when they are somewhat...um...delusional about their abilities. Hopefully we don't have any of that going on but I can tell you that having a choir director in your face with his finger in your chest because you mentioned that his Alto's were flat for like the entire song...yeah... that sucks.

I think there is a line here though when you go down the never seen before road. You don't want to get so far outside the box that your course is labeled as an extreme fantasy course and that becomes a mark against it. I'm not sure where the line is and each judge has it drawn at a different spot.

sweeeeeet.
It's odd just sitting this one out and waiting. I like the "no teasers" approach so far though. SURPRISES for later.

Took me ages to get going on this having been handed a random theme, but I think I'm pretty happy now ... Would love to post up a teaser screenshot but at the same time keeping everything a surprise is a great idea. Will be very interesting when we have the big reveal
