Great win Luke and great start to the season. Looks like you might be establishing yourselves back in the Premier league now. Sometimes 2nd season is harder, it doesn't look like it will be for your lot.

Cheers man. Not getting too carried after what happened after our decent start last season. One game at a time and fingers crossed it continues. What's going on at St James' Park? I live in Derby now and all their fans can't believe McLaren went to your lot.

Yeah, it is early days but you seem to have players who want to be part of a team. That's massive at any level of football/sport. We've invested heavily in the summer but so far most look like bad investments. We've still got no cutting edge and we still leak soft goals. We are good at keeping possession until we get to the final third. I think few of us wanted McLaren but I'll give him a chance. It won't take long for the crowd to turn mind. If we don't beat Watford on Saturday things could start getting nasty.

We got McLaren 2009-2010 (FC Twente, the Netherlands). Got us our first title. Couple of seasons later he returned and it was rubbish.

I've never rated him but his first spell at FC Twente was his must successful. Did he have money to spend? Did he play attacking football?

Can you explain what the difference was? I've never rated him but his first spell at FC Twente was his must successful. Did he have money to spend? Did he play attacking football? We're not sure but a lot off course had to do with the quality on the pitch. We had the best midfield in the Dutch Eredivisie that year and Brian Ruiz was the big man. (He never showed it at Fulham..) A lot of games where decided with a one-goal difference and the fans were blinded by the results. I got very drunk on May 2nd, 2010 When he returned to take over the job from the fired Co Adriaanse, the team was still good enough to compete with Ajax en PSV but something knacked in the heads of our players. Call it arrogance, call it lazyness.. it showed on the pitch. And in that year a lot of games where NOT decided with a one-goal difference. McLaren's philosophy seemed this: clean sheet. CLEAN SHEET. But in that year we didn't had Brian Ruiz who always seemed to score in the dying minutes. Because this attitude of 'clean sheet'-football, or clean sh%$ as we called it.... the games were not enjoyable to watch. The stadium was a orchestra of negativity. Finally McLaren got sacked and took, I think, 'bout 2M euro with him. At that time FC Twente worked with a budget of 45M euro (3rd biggest budget in Eredivise). McLaren bought some players, some of them recommended by Sven-Göran Eriksson but these players were not good enough. Years later, as in now... our club is in big financial troubles. The President who gave us the title, 2 supercups and a national cup, left through the backdoor. McLaren will be remembered as the manager who gave us the title but it also thought us a lesson: never go back to history so easily with former players or coaches. It might get dissapointing. I hope you can make something up from this. As clearly, I could better explain it to you in Dutch

It's a great insight Roosroan and I already see signs of the Clean sh%$ mentality you talk about. We are now playing with 2 defensive midfielders(one being Anita)but don't have the ability to keep enough clean sheets. We have scored 2 goals in 5 games. Most experts who analyse his career point to his success at your club but although he has to get some credit it sounds like the actual football wasn't great and games were not won comfortably. Congratulations on winning the title, I'm not surprised that you got very drunk in 2010!! Newcastle have not won a league title since 1927 or even a trophy in my lifetime (1969 the last one) so if we were ever to win I'd celebrate for months!!!! (Expect a huge drop in my TGCT WGR if that ever happened)
It's very rare that someone goes back to a club and succeeds for a second time, it is a lesson to be learned!!
