This thread is a sister thread to Chris Lane's thread.
First, I am older than a good percentage of you so take that in mind on my thoughts.
We all play this great game for our own reasons.
I am a small business owner (cpa) and my business is time demanding and stressful. I am going through a mini tax season while the web finals are being played. I have a family (as most do) and I have a 2 1/2 yr old granddaughter. ( the delight of my life) It does not leave a lot of time to practice this great game.
This is my first foray into online gaming. I have always used these games for stress relief offline. Before I started this game, I would have been amazed at the characters I have met this year, from a spunky Japanese girl named Ayako and a somewhat cocky Canadian lass named Ice Cold Lisa.( kind of miss her). The Euro guys like Drake, Lee etc and the Americans guys like Andy, Wes Ryan to others like Colin and Dave. I have left some out but you get the message.
I have not missed a tournament all year on the Web circuit and have came close to winning a few times. Winning to me is not as important as the fun times and competition I have enjoyed. Don't get me wrong, I play to win and I'm just as competitive as the next guy. I play real golf and would beat more of you than I would lose to.
I miss the Non Spoiler threads we used to have where the tounament played out as it should, on a round by round basis. That is where a lot of players wit and personality showed as they described their rounds. Now it is a ego and pissing contest within a few hours after the tourney starts. ( not directed at anyone in particular )
I have seen Nic and Tim, and others 'demote' themselves to have more fun. FUN, that is what we have here in the Web and tgctours. Thank you Tim, Doyley, the course designers , the course reviewers and so on for taking this game to a special level.
I, too, will move up to the 'bigs' if I make it. I feel like I will become fodder for Doyley, Brionne etc. If I can't win on the Web, how can I win up there, but it will not be about winning as much as surviving the cut. As Doyley said, we are not monsters. BUT your scores are downright scary though!
A thank you to all!
Bill

The thing is someone has to be the middle of the road or back of the pack PGA guys. Might as well be us competing among each other to make a cut! :-)

I'm one of the middle of the road players in the Web com tour I would have to have an exceptional week on the greens to get anywhere near a top ten spot. Tee to green I'm pretty good but I don't hole the putts consistently like the top players on the tour. I still enjoy taking part and someone has to come near the bottom every week.

I suppose the silver lining would be I would only have to find time for 2 rounds a week rather than 4!! We could have a cuts made leaderboard!
Serously though, I wonder how many have left the tgctours because they were not competitive and it lost the fun factor.
If my game doesn't improve, I may not have to worry about next season anyway as I may be back in the Web.

I have been playing two tours, TGC Tours and the Realistic Golf Tour and I much prefer TGC because of the green grid. I find it's the putting I struggle with I just can't see the borrow on an XB1 without the grid on. I'm going to cut down the rounds I play to a couple of practice rounds and then one tournament on TGC Tours each week. I'm also going to try playing one round a day instead of all four one after the other.

I think it's all about setting (realistic) goals for yourself. Personally, my main goal right now is to qualify for next year's Masters tournament. I don't expect to compete for wins at the PGA level. However, just being in the PGA and focusing on making cuts should help me achieve that goal.
I'm also excited to compete with the guys up at the PGA level that I've competed with here on the Web this year and I'm excited to see how they do at the next level. In general, I'm excited for what season 2 will bring not only for myself, but for a lot of you fellow Webbers as well.

Focus on making cuts and using the high level of competition to find ways to improve your game. I also like the idea of playing in the same tournament as the best players in the world, and with a (very) slim chance of beating them in any given week.

In my case I'm just trying to make cuts every week on the Web com tour which has been made easier by the number of people WD and also the number of people signing up every week. I'm really enjoying my rounds even though I'm not going to set the leaderboards alight. For example at last weeks Midwest Classic I shot a 61 in the first round and thought I had a chance of getting a top twenty five place then followed it up with 76, 67, 69 to finish at -15 and in a tie for 62 place lol. I couldn't buy a putt in the last three rounds but thats golf just enjoy what you shoot.

I bought the game and like most, I jumped headfirst into the Q school WAY too early... I thought after playing a couple rounds on the way to easy courses, I could magically shoot well and get myself a nice tour card... Well a +45 later in Q school brought me back down to earth... I look forward each week trying to tame the tourney course, and they have beaten me up much more than I have beat them up, but it has been an absolute blast.
Started out in CC-D and have slowly made my way up to B at the moment.. I just keep trying to get better each week, and slowly I have been progressing... Its time consuming but it has been a lot of fun.. Learning some loft, draw and fade has really helped me... I don't add up every single yard and click perfect... I do simple math in my head draw and or fade it and swing away
Ultimate goal is to make it to the PGA level, but for now, one of my main goals, is to keep progressing and eventually make it to the Web, and hopefully one day make it to the big leagues its been a battle but one I have enjoyed thoroughly...
Great game, great group of players, and this tour and the countless hours the folks at TGCtours have put In are appreciated...

I too had never played any form of on line game before TGCTOURS. I'm so glad I found this place as I truly love it. The people, the game itself and competition is as real life as you could ever get. It's an amazing accomplishment by the creators and all he admin staff. Well done!!
In regards to competing at the top level,. There is no reason you can't have "fun" on the PGA tour. Ive played against the top players ghost balls and I'm not even close to their level. I can't wait to compete against them though. Fighting to make cuts, or top 25's will be just as much fun as trying for top 10's on the web. If you are here solely because you want to win, then put the time in to do that, if you haven't got the time, then your goals and expectations need to be more realistic

Bill Bill, I'm older than most here, too (late 40s), and I've always appreciated your polite and thoughtful posts. This also is my first online gaming experience and I couldn't be more thrilled with this site, the good folks who run it, and the people who have been so welcoming. The competition is great and I really appreciate that even though we're all competitive by nature that most also cheer for our colleagues and are good sports. It's what keeps me coming back. As usual, good luck to all as we complete this amazing first season.

I'm also older (mid 40's) and this is my first online gaming experience. I have been playing golf video games for over 25 years and real golf for about 35 years. This game has got me soooo addicted!! The community is truly awesome, the developers and everyone involved at HB, the TGCT guys, Canuck who does his show, reviews courses, designs courses, etc. There are several people that make this game what it is and I hope they read these articles and understand we appreciate all that they do. As far as competing goes, well I'm on the PGA, and I don't know if I'll ever win an event. I tied for first once, but ended up second because of the tiebreaker rules (which are fair). But it's the competition that makes it so much fun. I don't care about losing, I care about making the cut and just having FUN. Which I have had an abundance of. I can't wait for season two, and to see what HB is going to do to the game. Good luck to all that are finishing up season 1, and best of luck to those returning for season 2!

I'm almost 40 and it's also the first time I really seriously taken part in on-line gaming. The game itself is great but I know it's this site that makes me so addicted. Words can't describe how amazing it is. It has almost taken over my life!!
I stared on the Web-A tour somehow and found life hard, making the cut was my goal. I achieved it 4 out of 10 times. It was frustrating but at the same time I did enjoy being in one of the higher tours. I got moved to CC-B when the Challenge Tour was created and I have enjoyed it even more here. I know if I put in 4 rounds to the best of my ability I have a great chance of winning. I've had a 2nd place, only beaten by Ryan Hammond on his charge up the tours! I've just earned my 3rd exemption chance for CC-A after failing the last two times. I don't know where I want to be. I like knowing that if I play well I have a chance of winning but I also have a desire to try to move up. Do I want to go back to missing cuts more often that I make them? Have I improved since then? I just don't know

I'm one of the youngest here.. Older than SourNinja though..
But I agree with everything you said Bill. I just play for fun myself and while it may get frustrating at times its all fun in the end and ill always be around as long as TGCT is no matter the tour. Love you guys and this site!
Season 1 Web.com/Web B for life!
