Hey guys this is my first attempt at a desert course and it's really foreign territory for myself. The desert is a serious challenge because creating a beautiful setting is so daunting! I've published Oasis Beta so I can get some feedback for the final rendition. It's fairly completed but aesthetics and playability is yet to be fully tweaked. For myself it's decently tough and has a good array of long and short holes. All of which have their own challenges. Any feedback and comments of any kind would be awesome! Thanks. Here's some teasers.

Just played a round here, very nice course. I even meticulously inspected all the fairway bunkers just to be thorough ;P I shot an awful 76(+4) but that is largely because I am awful at the game. I reckon anyone with any modicum of skill will be able to hit a good score around here as the holes are well laid out and the greens and pins are all reasonable. The only slight oddity I found was on the 17th, where I hit a straight tee shot (for a change), but the ball took of as though it was on a side hill lie, I have seen this before on courses I have been designing so I wonder if it is a bug? Might have another shoot around this one to see if I can hit a better score!

Just played a round Jordan. It's amazing, you have a real nice course in the cooking. Maybe the bunkers are a bit "raw" they lack some polishing, mayor in the lips, but all in all, great job. Looking forward to the completed version.

Thanks guys. Just curious on the bunkers.. Would you say they are too flat and in general need more sculpting?

More than a matter of depth I felt that some of the "fingers" of rough could be raised a bit, so the lips are more vertical. Kind of what Crazycanuck does in his tutorials, he lowers the sand and then raises a touch the perimeter of the bunker

Just played Oasis Beta...I think the course is really nice. There are times when you have to think about the tee shot, which I love. Driver isn't always the best option off the tee, and you've done that, which I think is great. The greens are done well, plenty of room to get rewarded for a good shot, but also plenty of room for trouble if you hit a poor shot. The breaks on the greens are done perfectly (my opinion). The only problems I see is the sculpting around the bunkers, and bunker dissecting. Which means, when you place a bunker, keep it all in the short rough, or keep it all in the heavy rough. I think it looks nicer. I think on 13, the right side near bunkers is a large mound, that should be smoothed out a bit and maybe dropped a smidge. I know this is WIP, so I'm just giving you my opinions on what the "Big Dogs" like to see. The most important part is your course is very playable!! I played in fairly windy conditions (9-15 mph) and all the fairways were reachable, all the greens were reachable in 2 on par 4's, and the very long par 5 on the back 630 yds. I believe, I reached in two. The other thing I would do, (just my opinion) is go into terrain settings and turn off all the rocks. It looks better when you add them on your own. I saw rocks in places that seemed like it shouldn't have rocks, but maybe that's just me and you added them, don't know? All in all this is a VERY nice desert course. Good job on the lighting also. One of the holes the sun was right in my eye, I could still see the flag, but I thought that was great!! Felt like I was in the desert really playing. Hope this helps. Again, nice job!!

Thank you for the feedback bassman. I'm going to definitely mess around some more with those ideas and fine tune this course to be one of my best yet. Thanks for the encouraging words and thanks for playing.

Hey guys and anyone who tested out Oasis Beta! I hope you can all see the photos above of the work I've done to this course which had been renamed to 'Wicked Dunes'... Haven't published yet but it's extremely close to being finished. Just thought an update was needed.
Not much has changed to the layout but aesthetically I've done a lot. Mostly plantings such as mulched flower beds and landscape plantings. Did up the clubhouse area to look pretty realistic... Practice green and driving range. DR is off in the distance but just adds realism which I like.
Plan on finishing Wicked Dunes relatively soon! So thanks again to whomever has played Oasis and plans on giving this track a whirl!
