I was curious just how much better these PGA guys were than us, so I checked out what course they were playing: Blue Oak Country Club
First round, ended up with a +6. The greens were incredibly difficult, like putting on an ice rink. Second round was a -5 and felt really good. If my putts were always landing, the extent of my abilities at this point would probably get me a -7 or -8.
Then I peek over to the leaderboards and I see scores like Doyley & Brighttail at -15 & 14.
Talk about humbling! Seems like I can always play competitively with the top 5 scores on the pc version of cc course practice rounds. But I'm not even in the ballpark for PGA! Their leaderboard had their 71st place player this week finish with a -8 and first with a -48. It is hard for me to fathom the consistency required to get a score like that on such a difficult green.

Keep at it. When they first came out with the CC flights, I was put into CC-A, a demotion from the old Web-A tour. I was determined from that point on. Motivated me to improve. I just played my first PGA event on a PGA card this past week. All parts of my game have improved, but it comes slowly sometimes. They aren't too many "A-Ha!" moments. Just getting a better feel over time. I played Q-School here after having the game about 2 and a half to 3 weeks. I just played the August Q-school about 2 weeks ago to see how much improvement I really have made. In the two and a half months between them I made up 36 strokes. It happens to a vast majority of those here over time that they improve in the first month or two that they play. The Driving Range section here has great stuff. Don't be afraid to go back a few pages in that section. If you have time, when you see the top players putting in the shoutbox that they are twitching their rounds, give it a watch. I still do it and I take pieces of what they are doing and try to see what they are doing well at that I may be struggling at and figure out how to apply that to my game in some way. First thing is... take it one shot at a time. You can't have a rough couple of holes and then try to be a hero on every shot after that trying to make it up right away. Just grind at it and play your game. Slowly the doubles+ turn into bogeys. Then bogeys turn into par saves. And finally you can turn some pars into birdies by making a few putts. Even I am amazed at the scores of those at the top of those leaderboards. Set yourself small goals, intermediate goals, and long term goals. Goals may be different for one person to the other... for instance, maybe you'll say "in this week's tournament I am going to try to not hit anything in the water or OB". Or Another short term goal for a top player may be: "No bogeys in 72 holes" facing 14-18 mph winds in 2 of the four rounds with firm/fast conditions. We all know the last part of it all, but it can't be stressed enough: practice. Good luck, and keep striving for improvement one piece at a time.

It is amazing how good some of these players are ... I unfortunately played the Q school early and thought I was playing well... A +45 changed that soon thereafter ha ha
The last poster is right slowly but surely I seem to be getting a little better ... Due to coaching football I don't get to play on any day except Sunday For a few months so practice is nill right now.... I still have my moments like the first round today on le golf! Could not buy a shot round one ... 15 pars, two bogies and a triple! +5 which is worst round In a while ... Instead of rage playing I immediately began round two and played it very well for a -10... I have yet to put all four rounds together but getting closer ...I have really come to enjoy the faster greens , when I do get to practice it's usually on fast greens
Chris Lewis and I were taking recently about eventually making the PGA .... I guess that is why I am enjoying this so much because it is hard to play... Takes time to get better and that's real life to me... .
Maybe one day I'll make pga! Until then I'll keep hacking away and hopefully keep getting a bit better each time out ... Sure is a lot of fun ...

While advancing in the ranks is the ultimate goal, right now I'm just focused on "me vs the course". I try not to pay attention to what others are doing around me as I feel it gets me too frustrated with my own slow and painful progression in the game. I was guilty of this when I held a CC-D card, but since my demotion to CC-E I've tried to take a different mindset and play it as me against the course each round. The course is still kicking my butt on most occasions, but I feel progress is being made with each round I play using that mindset.
Since being added by a few members here to their Steam friends list I have something to strive for in rounds. It's nice to have the "friends" feature and I thank the couple of members here that have added me.

We all know the last part of it all, but it can't be stressed enough: practice. Good luck, and keep striving for improvement one piece at a time. Driving range has been a huge boon for my game. I went there in one of my first weeks on TGCT and found a thread where a gentleman posted 13 great tips. The plus 3 / minus 3 for elevation calculation was very helpful. I never bothered to read up about wind calculations until a few weeks ago. The tutorial that Doyley put together with the difference between headwinds and tailwinds in how they affect your flight difference differently was my next jump in understanding. The one main thing that Doyley shows (that I don't do) in his tutorial is putting based off the pin marker. Up until I watched his video tutorial, I had no idea you could even move the putting marker forward and back! The formula for moving that marker around feels so unnatural that I do not use it at all. If this is what all PGA/EURO/Web.com guys do, I'll probably never make the cut over there. Thank you for the encouraging post. I look forward to fighting my way up the ladder.

That +5 to -10 score probably sets some sort of record for improvement from one round to the next. Looks like it was just the wind that got to you. This week I was able to play in 15-17 mph winds for practice on Le Golf National through 3 rounds. I think that helped me a lot when I was faced with the +19 mph first round winds.
