Wow....what a brutally hard tournament! First round wind was soooo difficult! My wind game is certainly improving! Good luck to my fellow Webbers on this one. I'm glad I'm done! Looking forward to a non windy tourney, but I REALLY love the new wind settings as we all play the same conditions.

I'm sure people will start doing what I just did - find tours that have high wind and play them for practice since it's near impossible to find them elsewhere. Need to get more familiar with the 20mph hurricanes!

I don't think one or two high winds rounds in a tourney is a bad thing. It still beats 4 rounds of battling wind waiters like before. As Doyley suggests, practice! I don't consider 10-12 mph winds high.
And yes I was overpar for my first round... And that's ok.

I believe I'll have an exemption for the PGA tour next week, so I'm just playing this tourney for practice. I've only played round 1, somehow managed to shoot under par. I love firm, fast, and windy conditions, so this place is right up my alley lol. I managed to make a 63ft putt (24" uphill) on hole 17...one of the best shots I've ever had on this game Guess I will see you at the Wyndham next week.

Need to get more familiar with the 20mph hurricanes! Agreed, but did you notice any inconsistencies in how much push/pull there was on your ball when the wind was moving directly from the right or left? I noticed this, mostly on drives, the wind would curve the ball on some shots but seem to "snatch it" on others. And this was on white-striped drives so that wasn't an influence.

I saw this on one shot, too. It's their "Ball Squirt" thing happening is all I could come up with for an explanation. I did have some wayward swings, and if you mishit it off in the same direction the 20 mph crosswind was blowing, man it took off in that direction. I don't understand why they have wind affect chip shots as much as it does. Doesn't make sense. The wind should have a negligible affect on a chip shot that goes 12-24 inches high in the air. I had a chip shot from the rough where the wind was in and pushing to the right. I hit the chip and it immediately shot off to the right.

will 6 under get me top 40? I doubt it Well I see 76 entrants plus it looks like 4 players coming up from CC-A. Thats 80 players. We get about 10 a week that do not play for some reason, so that leaves 70. I've only played round 1, so I can't attest how scoring will go in the last three rounds. I usually like to take a guess at what the winning score is early on, and given the conditions and winds posted, I think a winners score sample will go something like this: -2 -10 -7 -6 for a -25, but I could be way wrong. So -6... hmmm. I think once round 1 scores start posting on Monday you'll get a better idea. This isn't a spoiler thread, so I won't say anything about what I scored for Rd 1, but I felt it should be in the top 10 if not top 5 after the first 18. Given that score I think 40th after round 1 will be a few over par. It's looking like there is a 20 shot spread in this weeks scores from the top spot to the last spots in the top 40... so if my guess is right, then -5 would be at the edge of the Top 40 if that trend continued. There was lower wind last week, so the higher winds... I am not sure if that would widen or narrow the gap from #1 to 40th. The winds the week before in week 30 were higher and more like this week. The gap from the #1 spot to 40th was 24 shots. I'd give you a better than 50% chance that -6 it top 40, but just guessing.

I must say in the first round, I had several (most) drives start off considerably farther left than I was aiming. I have seen this discussion in HB as "Pulls". Made good fairly straight swings as well. Cost me about 7 shots easily first round.

'Straight' drives are moving a few yards left or right before wind even comes into effect.

I have to say I was all for the wind fix and still am but I think the last three tournaments we haven't seen the wind blow under 9 mph and this week with the first round being 20 ish made the start extra tough. I hope we do get some tournaments with low winds otherwise we might loose a few members, I scored pretty well in the winds so I have no axe to grind I just think we might need to make the fairways a touch wider and greens a little more receptive to compensate after all most of these courses were designed with wind waiters in mind and to stop low scoring.

That first round was quite a grind, but I enjoyed it. I feel like it's more rewarding to shoot around par when it's very hard to do that rather than firing darts at a defenseless course and shooting in the 50's.
