So I know that there can sometimes be an issue with fantastical elements on some in game courses, I thought it would be interesting to see where people draw their own personal line. I'll elaborate slightly on the poll options in case they aren't quite clear to everyone, with a few examples of what I mean: 1) As it says on the tin, you only want to play courses that strive for a realistic look and feel (real course recreations and the like) 2) Most of the time you prefer realism but will let a hole or two slide as long as it isn't too crazy (maybe something like Crawford Mines) 3) You're okay to see a course that maybe wouldn't exist in the real world but feasibly could (more along the lines of Hoodoo Hills/ Secret of Giza) 4) Locations that would obviously not host a real life golf course, but one that still plays real in game (I can't really think of one here off the top of my head, maybe the desert par 3 course in the last contest with all the steps) 5) You'd play on the moon if there was a tee and a green (The Par 7 challenge hole)
While obviously people should play the game for themselves and for their own enjoyment, I just wanted to get the overall community response. I'm expecting an average of somewhere between 3 and 4 maybe, with plenty of 2s and not many 1s or 5s.

there's no such thing. It can be whatever you want. You're the one making the course. Just make what you want

thing is there are so many different view points on this one I choose to totally ignore it. For ever person you please you'll displease another. *shrug* My personal opinion? It can look as crazy as you want...just keep it playable. If I'm stuck in a bunker that's basically a sand wall and there's no way up? yeah...too much. Take a look at Johneric's courses. His stuff is very much designed from a purely visual standpoint and it's a good time. His par 3 entry in the last contest was a lot of fun. That may help you find the "line"

I'm not aiming to please, I already know that my next course(s) are going to be pushing the edge of too fantasy because that's what I like - I feel like I can't be the only person that enjoys those courses though.

You're not. there's some that certainly do. My beef with some fantasy tracks is that they figure "it's just fantasy" so they ignore the details. As long as a course makes sure that the details are right it will be enjoyed by many. Remember that getting the little things right isn't about being picky... it's about removing anything that will distract the player from their round and their enjoyment. If the details are perfect then the immersion is perfect and the fun is taken up a notch. It's like if I'm directing a new choral piece with a choir. I work them hard and they sometimes complain. But I explain to them that what we are trying to do is not achieve perfection so we can be awesome. We are trying to be perfect so that WE don't distract from the music. We need to let it stand on it's own and be experienced fully. That can't happen if we don't get the details right.

I know it's my own poll, but that's why I went with 4. I'm perfectly fine with a course as long as it plays like a course should (fairways and greens are fair and achievable in regulation). Anything that looks wacky but doesn't majorly affect the play of the course is fine by me, as long as there is always a way to play the holes fairly.

Any style of video golf for me is good for the game but I'd prefer to play realistic ones on tour. Hoodoo Hills with it's OB everywhere, firm fairway/soft green combination and crazy elevation drops made for a great video golf course that felt very strange and magical but not one I'm eager to play on tour each week. Give me Hobble Creek style any day. Although a harder course than that obviously.

A tough one alright, especially in strong winds, but very different to Hoodoo Hills and a lot fairer (another multi-pin too). Practice most certainly needed.

The one after is even harder Sir. Thousand Islands. Great course, surprised it's on CC though as it has very tough greens. Looking forward to it.

And I thought this was the Challenge Circuit!?! My best mate played his first tournament (CC-D) on Hoodoo Hills and they're not getting much easier. Just hoping he doesn't throw in the towel as I can imagine it's quite daunting for less experienced players who have started their career on Hoodoo Hills. I think even PGA/Euro Tour players would find these courses a little demanding.

Just playing Thousand Trees again, it truly is a great course, I believe the greens should be toned down in speed for the CC though, otherwise the lower tiers will really struggle. I say that even though I putt better on fast greens. Anyways, sorry we've gone off topic here. Fantasy courses or Realistic courses people?

I had none less than 15mph. Managed to get to -5 around hole 10 or 11 then the dreaded 95% swing cost me two bogeys before I called it a night. Lovely looking course though. Just wish the visuals were up to PC standard.
