Royal Atlantic Thistle - Not Approved
Playability
Tee boxes - no issues
Green on #5 - hit in front of green, and rolled over green - shot hit to 201 yds, and rolled out to 239 yards - hit lofted 5 iron (192 yds - 7mph tailwind) - green should be elevated in back to prevent runoff or serve as a backstop.
Bunkers on some of the par 3's, I thought were too deep - limit's player to only 1 shot type (Flop) - couple of the pins were only 13-14yds from bunker.
Greens were very true with regard to putting - no hidden breaks or ghost breaks -
Pins
Hole #9 - yellow within 1 1/2 grids of pin - Pin position 1
All pins (except #5) were easily accessible
Aesthetics
Thought this course had the makings of a very good course, but, most of the views were very unspectacular
The terrain was very repetitive - as mounds and hills looked the same throughout the course.
Thought the waterfall on hole #1 was poorly done - too bland, and almost unrealistic
There were multiple bridges throughout the course, but, they were all repetitive with same design. Thought the designer could have been more creative.
The fauna on the course was repetitive throughout - though same different vegetation would have helped.
Thought the bunkers were very unpolished around the edges - not a designer, but, thought there could have been a better effort.
From overhead view, the green grids bled into the fringe and rough - not a playable issue, but, don't remember seeing this is many of the approved courses.
On hole #5 which borders the ocean, there was steam/mist rising from the ocean - didn't think this was realistic or necessary.
OVERALL
I think the designer put a lot of work into this course, and, in some cases over did the creativity.
Playability was not an issue (except hole #5), and the course has good potential with some tweaks and refinements.
Course did not WOW me, but, enjoyed playing it.
