Ok folks. This may be a bad idea and if it is feel free to tell me so and that you want nothing more to do with me as a person and that I should feel bad and that I can't grow a thick enough beard on my cheeks to ever be more than a goatee guy *pause for wiping the tears from my eyes*. However it may be a great idea and it may work wonderfully and we may all be better people for it and meet weekly for hugs for the next year.
Here's the idea. I'm going to create an 18 hole golf course but I'm not going to design any of the holes. YOU are. I'm not going to do a twitch collaboration like Crazy did. That's his thing. Not mine. I'm not going to let you vote on a course type like Guitardude is doing. I want you to design the holes...then let me actually create them and bring them to life.
Before getting into the process of how it will work I'll let you know kind of what I was thinking when I hatched this great/awful, fun/boring idea.
I know there are guys playing this game that want to design. I also know it's not as easy as just saying "watch me superimpose my thoughts direction onto this computer screen here!" and then banging your noggin on the monitor for a while or lovingly stroking your mouse (...gross?) while whispering your desires at your keyboard.
It's harder than it looks. but you still have these GREAT ideas! What do you do with them? Well...give them to me please. I think that this will allow some great golf holes that are sitting in your tiny minds to have life! That's awesome right? Wouldn't that be cool?
Also I think that some guys are designing but what they are putting out isn't what they had in mind...and they want help. Well...give me a hole design and I'll put it into the creator and you can see how it can turn out and maybe pick up some ideas and methods that could work for you gong forward.
I also want more players and more community involvement. YES there are some designers that get more attention. I think they have earned it but I also think that there are some guys out there with good ideas that are just afraid to let them out. That's fine! Let me handle the details.
What I have in mind is this. If you have a great golf hole idea that's been screaming at you for months and years and decades or if you suddenly have an epiphany or maybe you just had some bad mustard and the only relief is golf hole design you take a pen or pencil or photoshop or paint or whatever you can and design the hole you want to see. You don't have to be an artist, just get down your general idea. Any bunkers you feel strongly about (shapes or just "bunker here" is fine) along with any major elevation notes. Take a picture of that sucker and upload it here along with as much detail as you want to provide. Describe it as best you can. I want you to know what you want to see as much as possible.
One you've put it up its' in the mix to be in the 18 holes. I was going to just take the first 18 but if we get more than that I may have to just make some hard choices... we'll see. I don't anticipate getting a monstrous response really...but if I do I don't want this to just be a timing thing.
As I create the holes I will provide updates to the holes creator along with pictures and such so we can make sure we're on the same page.
HERE IS THE MAJOR DISCLAIMER!!!!!
Part of doing this is to take your ideas and provide the "finish" work on them. That's part of the help I want to provide to some designers that are struggling with getting the holes they make to really become a finished product that folks want to play. You have to be willing to let me tinker a little bit. No big changes or anything and NOTHING that you don't approve...but Having worked on collaborations before I can tell you that you have to be a little flexible. If you know you can't handle that or if you are hiding an inner "jerk" that you decide to let free upon me then please don't submit anything ok? Also I have final say on planting.
Ok then... Who likes the idea? Who wants in? What do you want to see come to life?
As for theme...I think that the Highlands theme will allow for the most options because it has good trees and brush, an optional coastline as well as links possibilities. That should allow up to lay down just about anything and get it to look pretty good. If not then we may try countryside or boreal...it depends on the holes.
