Well two courses down for me, Started another already... I chose the highland theme.. Its going to be very rugged, and very fast...Want to eventually see what these PGA type scorers can do on it They'll tear it a new one no doubt....Very early, no planting at all, touch up on local terrain to be done, but global terrain is being worked on now..
I used the island style backdrop and created my own mountain range on one perimeter....
Right now completely modeling the terrain, two holes worth of terrain are almost complete, however I haven't decided if I will actually put bunkers on it....There'll be no cart paths, you will have to walk your way around this one (well as of now anyway)
Would like some thoughts on whether or not to continue this route (no bunkers) or go ahead and throw bunkers in?? Appreciative of any comments or thoughts, or heck if you think so tell me to scrap the entire idea all together..
Hole one: Up hill all the way... First screen Reverse of One from green : (Note greensite terrain not worked on yet)
Hole Two Tee Shot
Second green site
Thanks for looking and for any comments/criticisms etc...

This looks really solid. Quick question, do you sculpt the terrain first, then add your holes or add holes and then sculpt the terrain around the hole? I've always gone with the second option, but I'm always open to changing.

Long story short, on this one I created the terrain first then added the holes (Big global terrain sculpting first, laid out the holes, then the local terrain greensite sculpting etc last)... On my previous two Courses, I started with basically a flat plot and laid out the holes and built the terrain in and around them.....
Thanks for looking and commenting...

Really interesting idea, and I really like it! I personally think bunkers won't be necessary, as it may detract from the ruggedness of the course.

I'm not a designer by any stretch so wouldn't comment on that aspect of it but for what it's worth as a player I love the look of it and would love to play it!

Two more pics on hole four Ive spent the last couple hours working the terrain...Several levels, may be one of my personal favorite designed holes even from back on the PGA2K design days..One question...Looking for walking path, is this RED? Im color blind but wanted something a dirtish looking color to walk between holes and such...My scrap them sure enough
Tee shot
Reverse from green showing levels...Still much terrain work to sculpt....usually finish greens up dead last on a hole.....

Do they look right with the surrounding textures color wise? Stuff like that always a major hurdle for me, reds browns and greens are hard for me to differentiate

Do they look right with the surrounding textures color wise? A bit hard to say from that screenshot. Do you have one that shows the path(s) a bit closer?

Well haven't designed much on this one in a few days, plan on giving it a run here in the next few days, believe I am up to hole 10...
Name change: Now Called The Links at Skull Island (For some reason reminds me of Kong's Island) Yeah Dorky name..LOL
Anyway a couple more shots to show what the golfer will be up against... Started with flat plot... Created all the mountainous ranges first then the bigger hills etc...
here's the screen shots..

this is looking good, though the red path isnt doing it for me, i think the light brown would work well here

Ya the red is a little bit of an eyesore. It looks like this course could get a lot of rain? Maybe make the paths dark brown (mud) for color if possible. I haven't dove into course design myself.

Worked on several holes today... Laid rest of the course out... The pic attached is the greensite of 18 next to hole one tee.... Currently working on a staircase/walk way up to the lone lighthouse...A hike to say the least... just messing with ideas, LONG way to go
PS: I got rid of the red walkway... I am colorblind and am having a hard time finding something suitable.. can someone please post a pic of a walking path that would look good here... you can see near clubhouse what I have currently... But Not sure it fits..
Thanks for looking
