What do you guys do when you're 6-10 yards from the hole and off the green, yet facing a downhill slope?
Less than 100% on my chips leaves me short of the green. If I hit the green, it rolllllllllllls on forever.
putting from off the green is an option (sometimes) I guess, but that'd be tough to gauge I'm sure.
thanks!

I use the 4YRD loft wedge shot. It's the only chip distance I'm good at..

Of course if I'm 10 yards away I might try the 30YRD lofted down to 20 and take a half a swing. I'm decent at pulling that shot off..

If I hit the green, it rolllllllllllls on forever. Add more loft to the 4y-chip (according to the downhill slope) and then make a full 100%-"swing" maybe?

I use a LW flop shot on all of my chips around the green. No adjustment, just play it with feel. If you are coming from the fringe, or the light rough you get some nice spin to stop the ball near the pin. It does take a bit of practice, but once you get it, I feel that chances of holing out, or getting up and down increases. I could never chip, so went for this instead.

I can do the 4YRD loft chip, and the 5YRD when it's uphill. The 6 and 7 YRD chip I never use, too hard for me. The LW 30 down to 20 and adjust the swing is best for me.

Using the LW would work perfectly for what the OP said, downhill onto the green. With the LW you can be aggressive and attack, knowing that the ball will stop quick, and eliminate the slope altogether.

This is exactly why the flop needs some serious re calibrating at HB's end. The chip shot is the most under utilised shot in the game despite being one of the most important shots IRL.
I love the chip shot and use it regularly. Once you get the hang of it it's very much doable. And far more satisfying when it drops

Almost the same for me.
I hardly ever estimate those longer chip & run shots right. So if I have longer distances (usually +15y), it's time fo rme to switch to LW as well.

I would use the 4yd chip and up loft it slightly(how much depends on the severity of the slope). It chips up and then the spin on landing takes the pace out and should just meander down the slope to the hole for a makeable putt. I used to use the flop shot alot for the short chips of less than 15yds but now will only chip for anything inside that distance. Anything above 15yds then the flop shot usually makes its appearance.

the 4yd chip is the only reliable chip you should ever use really. IF it's what you say 6-8 yards and downhill. You can do a few things. You can loft up the 4yd chip and have a go. But I find the ball has more spin and doesn't roll the way you want it to. So What I do usually is take a lesser swing. I know it goes about 8 yards on flat. So downhill I will just take about a 70% swing and let the hill do the rest.
Same with 8yd uphill shots. Just loft down a bit to get some more roll and you're good to go!

There are times when you are 8 yards away with a hole that is 10inches below you and to make matters worse you have a big right to left swing. I often times will loft a little up on the LW and swing way right pitching the ball upwards onto the hill and let gravity take effect. Now often times the ball will roll past the hole but because I chipped up the hill it will roll with the break and my shot coming back will be uphill with little break.
Putting is the same thing, I will often putt way up a hill with extreme break and let the slope bring it down towards the hole. You are using a lot more break but you'll be closer to the hole.
