PREVIEW PLAY -- search for: Royal BR--Preview Play
Play 3 newly constructed holes at the under-construction Royal Blackrock, located in Melbourne Australia in the same renowned sandbelt region home to Royal Melbourne, Victoria, Kingston Heath, and many other classic courses. This course preview was created for the Best 3 Hole Stretch Design Competition.
The three holes are:
Hole #7
A medium length downhill par 3 with bunkers all around taking bites out of the putting surface and a Redan style right fairway slope. The front right pin is the most difficult to access, with steep slopes on all four sides.
Hole #8
A medium to long par 4 running along the west boundary of the course with the City skyline beside and beyond the large green. To the back right is the tunnel to the 18th tee, to the short right is the beginnings of the par 3 17th green. Using the slope to cut the dogleg will make the hole shorter, but will leave a worse angle over the front left mound into some pins.
Hole #9
A short driveable par 4 up the main slope of the property, with the City skyline beyond the green, including a mansion spire to aim at to the partially blind and very narrow putting surface. Beware the back right pin, those laying up to the short right will face a nearly impossible pitch shot. Behind the green you'll notice a pedestrian bridge which brings players between several holes, including from 9 to 10.
See photos and proposed routing below. You'll notice some interesting easter eggs if you look around a bit that will not feature in the final 18, including several active construction sites.
