Savannah Dunes Resort is my entry into this year’s Meme Team 2024 Competition as a member of the BrendanOR1234, MapCollector, Retteach (myself) trio.
One hundred miles south of the infamous Augusta and forty miles south-west of Harbour Town, lies a rival coastal golf gem relatively unheard of and often overlooked by golf enthusiasts.
The land for Savannah Dunes Resort was originally purchased by a fanatical golfer, a wealthy billionaire and recluse named Shanks Mulligan in the late 1970’s to offer private memberships to his golfing buddies and those who could afford a championship level facility, but was later open to the public in 1987, when the city of Savannah purchased it from Mulligan who was bankrupt and needed to sell.
As a par 71 with 4 tees and 4 pin sets, this course offers variety sporting tight fairways, encroaching water, ample waste bunkers, and fantastic oceanside views. Greens run at 171’s but were designed and tested to handle 186’s with high winds to add to the challenge. At only 7,278 yds from the back gold tees, the course’s main defences are the tight fairways that require a well-placed drive, handling the sneaky subtle greens, and avoiding the water and sand.
At the end of your round, pop a beverage and share your golf adventures with your foursome and enjoy your stay at Savannah Dunes Resort.
