I’m curious if anyone has experience designing a course on a small plot in the designer. I’ve decided to build a course on a 775x775 yard plot and have been looking at wannamoisett country club in Rhode Island and mark bostick golf in Gainesville Florida to give me ideas on routing and shape but wanted to see if anyone on here has some input on their experience either designing a small course or even playing one in person. Style wise mine will look similar to Wannamoisett.

Thanks again for sending these along.

As someone who lives in RI and put Wannamoisett and several other RI courses into the game, I think Wannamoisett is the best course in the country by square foot. It is elite routing and hole design. Also check out Warwick CC in RI, another Donald Ross Par 69. The hardest part about designing these types of courses in 2K is that they typically cant stretch more than 6,500-6,800 yards which makes them very easy to play in the game

It’s funny you say that about the difficulty in the game, I was just thinking about how to do this but not have it be insanely easy. As far as off the tee my course is relatively wide up to around the 300 yard mark where I’m trying to create some difficulty by challenging the player if they want to try and take driver on. But I haven’t come up with anything solid in regard to defending the greens. I’m a fan of run off areas and playability around the greens but that might not work on a course like this. Thanks again for the info here.

Just downloaded the LiDAR and OSM for Wannamoisett. Cool course, so now it's in the designer, I'll see what I can do with it.

I did a mess around course a bit ago, I have no idea how big it is, but it's barely 700 yards from one end of the course to the other. Basically ever fairway crosses over other fairways and it only has 9 greens for 18 holes. Was a fun experiment. tgctours.proboards.com/thread/35124/double-vision-theoasis

I have little to add here but comment because I LOVE a good compact routing. I think the challenge I have seen in this type of course is that the vectors that your holes travel along get limited. I.e.: your holes probably need to be mostly at right angles or parallel to one another to maximize use of the space and eliminate dead space. But I'm sure the creatives here probably found nice ways to incorporate diagonal routing where possible.

I would say you’re spot on rebs, I put down 18 holes on a small plot and blew it up because I didn’t like the routing for those exact reasons. The current one I’m working on has drawn some inspiration from real life smaller plot courses like wannamoisett. There are super creative ways to get 18 holes on a plot that isn't back and forth and parallel, however in my expierence so far it takes some trial and error.
