Unfortunately there isn't much LiDAR data available for Ireland but I have managed to some, most of it is a little old so the courses may be based on slightly out of date layouts but I'm not too worried about that as I'm sure some more recent data will be published (soon?!>).
First up, and very close to release, is The Strand course at Portstewart.
With arguably the best front nine holes in Ireland all dramatically set in the dunes with sweeping drives from elevated tees in the dunes and superb green sites tucked in the dunes or sitting on top of them.
The course also features very challenging par 3's and all with classic undulating putting surfaces.
I'll be releasing 2 versions of this, a before and after. The data predates some changes made for the Irish Open in 2017 (won by John Rahm) and the changes involved moving the 4th green on the adjacent Riverside course to create new tees on the Strand.
Which leads me to the second upcoming course, The Riverside.
I've made it all on one very large plot so that there are far reaching views over both courses (I'm a sucker for getting the background views correct on my courses!).
The Riverside is situated on the banks of the River Bann below the towering dunes of The Strand course and features plenty of burns to negotiate and again some excellent green complexes.
Following these will be Royal Dublin. Set on a manmade spit of sand created by the introduction of a sea wall in Bull Bay over 200 years ago it has quite a unique site accessed by a wooden bridge at one end and a causeway at the other, with the imposing towers of the decommissioned Poolbeg Powerstation across the bay at Dublin Port.
And the last 2 (further north of Dublin) will be County Louth (Baltray) and Seapoint right next door to it (images to follow).
That should keep me going for a few months!
