Please note: the game doesn't recognize accents on letters so there is no accent on the 'e' in Colisee.
Here is my entry into the ultimate stadium contest. The City Colesseum Golf Club is Ontario's brand-new venue for the world's best golfers. At par-72 and 7500 yards, it has plenty of teeth, especially if the wind is up. I've taken inspiration from several golf courses like "That one in Georgia" for the shaved banks, NGLA for the "Alps" 6th hole, Sawgrass for the island green 15th, and the Old Course for the insane "Road" hole 18th.
The plot was provided for this contest. There were existing roads that are the boundary of the course. My clubhouse and practice green are within the boundary, but the driving range is just across the street from the first hole. For this course, I kept the lakes and general elevation that was provided and routed the course accordingly. The 18th hole was always going to be a Road hole cutting across the corner of the town. All the others went through several revisions in routing.
As for spectators, in my mind, the owner of the land asked me to keep giant grandstands to a minimum. He wanted the patrons to be able to see as much of the course as possible from any location. Of course, there are some grandstands around the important holes like 1, 9, 15, 17, and 18, but otherwise, there are hills around the course where spectators can gather, each with its own concessions area and restrooms. Several holes can be seen from each hill. There are even some bleachers on top of some buildings along the 18th, a la Wrigley Field in Chicago.
As for golf, depending on the wind, a few holes will have you put the driver away. I changed the 15th to allow long hitters (or big downwind shots) to reach the water with the drive. The 2nd and 7th could be played with 3W if downwind. The shaved banks really play havoc with approach shots. They force players to land the ball on the green and any ball offline will bounce or roll into the drink. I can tell you from experience that on a rare occasion, you'll get a Freddie Couples ANGC '92 and the ball will hang up in the rough, but that won't happen often. On the par-5 15th, I've scored a 2 and a 10.
Hardest hole - par-3 8th
Easiest hole - par-4 17th
My favorite hole - par-4 18th
My least favorite hole - par-4 11th
