I love the NFL and love watching the draft.
This morning's thoughts.
Chicago looks really good with Caleb and Rome additions. That team is set up well, hopefully Caleb can be this years CJ.
Washington, meh. I don't think Jayden is as good as others do. I think he will bust. Especially if thrown right into the fire. I hope the best for them, but I predict RGIII 2.0.
New England did well. I like Drake Maye better than Jayden. Let Drake sit under Brissett for as long as you can and he should make a fine QB for Mayo.
Kudos to Arizona, Giant, and the Chargers for all staying put and going with the best available players. Joe Alt may not be the high profile receiver, but he is exactly what Harbaugh needs in his smash mouth run scheme.
Unlike others, I think Atlanta made a great pick. Penix has potential, but he really needs to develop some. I think he would bust if thrown in this year. Most of the good QBs sit a year or two. I think a lot of busts, would not be so busty (haha!) if they had been allowed to sit and learn like Mahomes, Rodgers, and even Love. You got Cousins for at least two years. Grab Penix with his potential and let him learn the NFL speed slowly. Then in two years, you potentially have a 10 yr starter ready to go. Most teams would kill for that. I keep hearing that Penix was a reach and could have been had at a lower pick. I disagree. The Raiders wanted him, and would not have let him fall past them.
My QB philosophy is, if you have a good QB that is 34 or under, get a good backup. if you have a good QB 35 or over, get a good succession plan in place now, and be patient. If you have a bad QB, or one aging out at any moment, then grab the one that is the safest pick to play right now. If there is what you perceive as a can't miss generational talent, do what the Bears did and upgrade.
I'm not a JJ fan, but I think of all the teams, Minnesota was the best fit for him. If they can be patient enough, He should be ok there.
All the teams in there that grabbed offensive linemen, good job. Those guys were needed, and while not flashy, that helps your team win.
Denver got who they wanted. Nix is probably the closest QB to being ready to play in the NFL. Denver basically had nothing at QB, but more importantly, Nix is obviously a perfect fit for Peyton. Could he stand to sit and develop? Sure. but if not, at the very least, Peyton gets a guy that he wanted, that will fit his style of play. If it all works out, he has New Orleans/Brees again. If not, he has a bridge for two years that he can blame away and reset.
I think the Raiders were the losers of the draft. They needed a QB, and ended up without a chair when the music stopped in this cake walk. They then went with the best available, which was unfortunately exactly the one player they did not need.
The defensive players are all good picks, same as the offensive linemen. Good for Tampa, getting Baker some help.
Kansas City got Tyreek 2.0 hopefully, and with Rice's troubles they needed that. Jacksonville was able to replace Ridley, good pick there. People questioning San Fran's choice, but I bet they trade one of their other WRs. Not sure about Carolina, but give them credit for trying, and for moving into the 1st round to get him so they can help the finances if he does hit.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on it!
