I think its time to have a lidar version of, in my opinion, the best US Open course and possibly the best course (again my opinion) in America, added to the game. I know there is an outstanding version CLV did before lidar. But I just think its worth having it done as lidar. What am I doing to ensure it is accurate? -mainly, adjusting bunkers to remove the "sag" from importing bunkers on to really deep lidar bunker terrain. Many of Oakmont's bunkers are fairly flat bottomed, with a sand few flashes here and there. -double checking every fairway and green location to accurately represent what is there today. -tree matching based on real photos, cross referenced with google earth for accurate positioning.

Quick question for anyone reading. What looks better in your opinion. With or without the mulch texture under the "native grass" areas?

I prefer the first image. Based on photos an aerial images this better represents the burnt rough areas at Oakmont IMO.

I know you've got it covered but maybe have a quick look at theclv's version of Meadowbrook. I really liked the way he did the burnt rough areas off fairway. I'm not a designer and I don't think he used mulch but instead a brown rough texture. The contrast of colour is 'softer' and the fact it's a grass texture with longer grasses over the top looks quite authentic. It also has flecks of green within it and the blending of colours looks great IMO. Anyway good luck and I will continue to follow.

Stick with the theory in image 2, but "burn out" the heavy rough using the remove heavy rough tool (used to accomplish this by burying trees)

Another observation... I don't like the mow lines on the teeing ground.

I am not. I was just removing the lowering that happens when you place bunkers in the editor. Most bunkers it works out to about a foot. I might hold off until more work is done then if it's undergoing changes. Busy The next 2 months with other work. I think what I'm going to do so there's a playable lidar version is skip the native grasses. And not worry about the new bunkers until hanses work is finalized. Then go back and finish the grasses and new bunkers. At least get something uploaded.

Let's see if we get a new game before then!
