From Golf's Missing Links website - 'The Monte Mayor club opened in 1989. A fantastic and challenging course, it was stated to be “one of the most spectacular on the Costa del Sol” The course was set in a valley on the slopes of Monte Mayor in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The ruins of a tenth century Moorish Fort sits on the summit of Monte Mayor. Professional Alex Cejka held the course record of 66. Signatures Holes were; the par three third considered as one of the best par 3's on the Costa del Sol. Very intimidating, but a well struck shot slightly to the right of the pin would bring the best result. The par five fourth hole. A drive, then a choice – go for the green – or lag up on to the plateau. You then crossed over a lovely rustic bridge with a glorious waterfall cascading over natural marble stone. The par four thirteenth, from the elevated tee there were breath-taking panoramic views over the course and to the coast.' Set high in the hills above Marbella and surrounded by multi-million pound villas it was a destination course. It was bought by (evil!) Russians in 2011 and closed, and has slowly returned to the wild. I was lucky enough to platy the course in August 2007 and left it with about half the balls in my bag! In October last year I realised that there was LiDAR data available from not long after it closed and embarked on a quest to reincarnate it. The layout of the holes can still be seen on historical imagery from Google Earth Pro so I used that and a limited number of photos from the internet, the course scorecard and most valuable of all the LiDAR data itself, to recreate the course. It has the original tees from the scorecard plus I've taken the liberty of adding my own sat of black tees to lengthen the course for the game (and some slightly more spectacular and trepidatious shots!). I've also included some colour-coded marker posts near the tees as an aid to sim players so that they might have a chance of finding the fairways on any blind tee shots. With thanks to Blueblood1996 for the playthroughs and feedback.

Thanks for making this Frankie, Don't think there are many real courses in the world with a Hole drop of 250ft,(maybe i should not be so harsh of fictional/fantasy courses with so many drops) Got to say with my level of play found myself in some very awkward places to play some shots Struggled to break par.Maybe need the scout cam on this one.

How's your version of Whistling Straits coming along Franky? Are you still doing it?

How's your version of Whistling Straits coming along Franky? Are you still doing it? Lol! I'd forgotten about that one. I started making that back in 2K21 when the Ryder Cup was there and somebody else put out a pretty decent version but it always crashed a few holes in on my old Xbox (where I still play most rounds). I wanted to do a version that we could play without crashing. I may finish it one day but man....all those bunkers...ugh!

Cheers mate. Yeah I think real courses like this are incredibly hard to play in anything near SIM mode. It's a shame we can't walk to the front of the tees like you would in real life to have a look at where you need to hit it! That's why I put in those coloured marker posts on the tees though to give you a bit of a chance but if you're playing with a big wind like I do it's still pretty much hit and hope...just like my real swing🤣

Yeah I can imagine how time consuming it would be Yeah it's a very complicated plot as it's very long like many of the British links courses) so to do it justice you need to increase the plot size beyond what the designer deems normal. That then makes the splines on the bunkers (and everything else) misbehave so it's a real ball-ache getting everything right. Actually Monte Mayor is the first course in ages where I haven't increased the plot size so it was a real pleasure to work on😃

Great job resurrecting this bonkers but fun course. Struggled most of the round and just broke par with a chip in on 18. Can't imagine it in high wind in game let alone IRL. My guess is it closed because it was too hard for tourists maybe?

My guess is it closed because it was too hard for tourists maybe? I think it closed because the Russians who bought it had no intention of keeping it running. Some sort of real estate scam. It was quite playable...you just lost a few balls! Any shot over the edge into the barranca you could drop a ball for 1 shot penalty. Also most tourists would have been playing it from the forward tees. Anyway it was a privilege to reincarnate it and save it for posterity!
